The mysterious depths of his manly cave

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

KIRKWALL!!

(Anonymous) 2017-03-03 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not happy about it, anon.

Me neither and it seems weird politically. Plus the Inquisition is all about Skyhold!

How are we gonna close rifts if we have to cross a sea every time??

(Anonymous) 2017-03-03 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Silly anon... the rifts and political plots will magically move with the inquisition oversea.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-03 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
They probably will. It's almost like thedas is a big fakey fake world that can be changed to conform to ooc needs. Crazy, huh.

I'm pretty sure the implication is that Skyhold is still going strong and Kirkwall will just be among several bases of operations. The political plots won't have to move because you're traveling all over the continent to get to them anyway, it's not like they all take place in the Frostbacks.

Orlesian politics are tied up for the moment, though I'm sure that we'll come back to it. We haven't really done much other political stuff.

Kirkwall means Free Marcher politics, Tevinter politics, probably some Qunari politics. We can still go back to other places for plots, but we have easy access now to a whole wider range of them. If your character's into specific elven or mage causes, Kirkwall is a great staging ground to dive into both. It also puts our Dalish and Carta characters close to a place they can interact with that.

As for the Rifts, they are literally magical and all over the world already, so I wouldn't stress about it. There will be plenty to close!

you... know there are rifts everywhere, right

also, the game seems less like the seat of the Inquisition and more like one of the many arms of it, so I'm fully on-board with the idea of having the setting be somewhere that PCs can actually have some autonomy. In DAI you're constantly setting up new fortresses and such, so it's not that big of a reach?

(Anonymous) 2017-03-03 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
That sucks, I'm sorry. I hope you can make the best of it anyway.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-03 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Can I ask why? Genuinely curious, I'm pretty pleased about the shift but I know that's not true of everyone.

+1

I'm concerned about how this move might change the overall tone of the game. I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

i'm really not either but i'll wait and see what it's actually like once we're there. hopefully it won't feel like we're stifled by the location. i know there are going to be plenty of player focused things but it's not like we didn't have that before.

Wasn't the point of Skyhold the fact that it was hard for Corypheus to attack/reach? We already know Kirkwall is on a blood magic shithole so it feels like he could use that REALLY easily.

Is that the point for more plots? Otherwise it seems like a bad idea ICly.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-03 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Skyhold will still be a base. It's just not where our characters will be, and since none of them are as important as a game Inquisitor, there's less reason to worry IC about them taking risks.

If I'm reading it right, the point of the Dark Timeline plot was to learn that the Inquisition has a lot of issues to handle outside the south if they want to win the war. Cleaning up a certain strategic blood magic shithole is one of those issues.

OOC, the point is to allow player characters to direct more of the forward focus of the game, to make choices seem more real and add the possibility of more conflict, to open new plot locations, and to give an easily handwaved excuse for where advisors and companions are when they aren't apped.
