i'm so glad the new character isn't efi. orisa is super cool. but i really did not want efi as the next hero.

I would have been okay with Efi as the next hero... In concept.

But given the player base, I'm relieved that they aren't given a little black girl to shoot at. I already deal with enough casual racism/sexism in the Overwatch community, and in general it just doesn't feel good shooting at children.

it will NEVER be here because that would make them have to change the game rating if you have kill a child. blizzard has another game with cards that's name is escaping me and even the childish characters just retreat when they lose, they don't die.

there's no way for ovw to implement that sort of distinction visually, so it will never be a child hero.

yeah, that has been my position since day one

however it would be easy to make her retreat instead of die- instead of a death animation just have her teleport away, that's lore friendly but that's just me being pedantic because violence against a child not necessarily how effective that violence is makes the difference

it would literally result in the game being banned in certain regions. there are parts of the worlds that have hard and fast rules about violence against children in video games.

if i had to guess? variety. when everything is sexy, nothing is.

correction: literally all of the women are SeXyYy (yes, ana too, due to her 'young' skin) while half the men aren't. because a bunch of them aren't even human.

so it's cool to have a non-sexy female character in the cast.

this is that overwatch newbie anon that keeps asking questions, but

is there any unspoken significance to people rapidly selecting off and on the character they want to play or is it just something done for obnoxiousness' sake?

also if we want to rp from this, are the comics literally all characterization we have to go off of? i'm not entirely sure how to piece together how each character feels about each other aside from things said in pregame dialogue. i have read most of the comics, but it feels like i am still missing a lot

Character quotes + comics + cinematics are basically the material, yep! (Ah the joys of RPing from MOBAs...)

As for the clicking on and off: nah. Usually it's just being being bored. Sometimes it's fun when you start doing it and then everyone else starts doing it. And sometimes, rarely, if you're an asshole, you trick other people into doing it and try to snipe their character from them.

are you playing on console or on pc? if you're on console, it's the only way you can indicate who people should pick in the selection screen because of the lack of a team chat. like let's say we needed a tank for a map, i'd rapidly select on and off d.va/rein/whoever. sometimes that message doesn't go through so they end up picking the character to fill in the slot and hope that the team composition isn't too terrible.

and yes, word of god, comics, video shorts and in game dialogue are all we have in terms of rping. they have committed to stories and origin tales for everyone, but it's spotty at best when to expect it.

As for the character select, if you're in a game mode that allows multiples of a character, they're telling you to stack up on that character.
