Anons, give me your best stories of either bouncing back or crashing and burning after a significant person or portion of your character's CR dropped from the game. One of my character's buddies recently dropped, and while I think mine will be alright after a period of depression, it's been a while since I was long enough in a game for this to happen.

I actually let my character go into a suicidal spiral in a game with a revival mechanic. The character basically tends to get overly reckless when he's depressed and is looking to get killed, so I took every opportunity I could justify without hurting his remaining CR too badly. That was actually a lot of fun.

My ship partner/only castmate had to drop from a game, and their relationship had been building toward something big. My character fell back on all his shitty coping mechanisms and his CR had to basically look out for him before giving him a slap in the face and saying "right, that's enough!" I'll never stop praising all my awesome gamemates who let me have that.

my character lost their most-important-person from canon, but due to some unfortunately timed rl shit, i didn't want to play out the loss. so i put my character into a plot that essentially made their life 100 times worse, forcing them to deal with their present situation and trauma over the loss of that person.

the plot ended up being a great springboard for my character's development and eventual ship, so i'm pretty happy with my decision.
