i think the logic goes that the problem isn't just a lack of representation, it's a lack of representation in actual popular media. it's part of why joan watson in elementary got some people all excited. ditto black hermione.

doesn't make it less au or ooc, obvs. just means she's a better fit for memes and/or tublr.

you're not really gonna find that in any kind of earth-less fantasy. the representation comes from the faces of the actors, not the ethnicity of the characters. which star wars is already making pretty damn big strides with in the recent films. but apparently if the dude isn't a walking talking cultural example mexico, it apparently doesn't count for some people, and that's honestly kind of infuriating.

does she think chirrut and baze speak chinese? how can she not see how offensive this is? just because diego luna is mexican does not mean his space character in a galaxy far far away can speak spanish!
