good luck to your dad on his path to downton abbey BNFdom

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

i wish it were still kosher to namedrop people you like threading with in the canon threads. :( i don't bother reaching out for fandom friends anymore, but i still get excited when i tag someone on memes and they play well and i want to let other people into the canon know. but no, i gotta worry about "hi ____" and "lol selfdrop".

damn my puppylike excitement.

why do you need to namedrop them anonymously. send a pm or hit up their hmd

i never understood the appeal of anon comm dropping since yeah it opens season on them and they might not even see it. not everyone reads anoncomms.

ayrt

ehhhh. it's kind of like the feeling i get when i tell someone that "that coat you liked is on sale for five bucks at forever 21 RUN RUN RUN" or "THAT AUTHOR YOU RECCED ME JUST POSTED A REALLY GREAT SHORT STORY, COME AND READ IT WITH ME". i don't feel the need to tell forever 21 or the author that they're doing a good job. it's not about making the player feel good at all. i just want to celebrate with people who can also appreciate the thing.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-09 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
your two examples are radically different, though? forever 21 don't need praise for their coats, they're a massive multimillion international company. some fanfic author on ao3, though? it'd make their damn day to hear you liked what they wrote. it's a much more personal scenario, and praising an rp partner over pm is far closer to that than the former.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-09 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
yes, but the feeling is similar in both cases, which is why i picked them. it's not really about what the person doing the good thing wants; it's about me wanting to share that a good thing is happening, if that makes sense.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-09 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
.....so share it with the person youre having the good thing with.

wtf

telling someone that you like their rp isn't the same as telling unrelated people so that they can also enjoy it! but i get it, we're not seeing eye to eye.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-10 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
Make a plurk about threads you're enjoying?

(Anonymous) 2017-02-09 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe send them a nice pm?

(Anonymous) 2017-02-09 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I just got a nice PM and it has made me very happy. I know it's not the same, but it'll have to do for now.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-10 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
i get what you mean, anon. basically, you miss being able to rec good players/versions of characters to other people.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-10 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe now we've got active mods here, we could ask them to delete any negative comments that pop up in response to names in favorite threads?

(Anonymous) 2017-02-10 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe, but that doesn't stop negative nancys from taking their harassment directly to the players or over to wankgate.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-10 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
who gives a shit what they do on wankgate? i just don't wanna see it here

da +1

i might not have joined in on a lot of favorites threads, but once in a while i'd toss up a few names and what i enjoyed about it and i liked being able to do that. now, it's like wg lite. you can't actually mention anyone or anything by name or else at least one asshole will pipe up loudly and start spamming negative shit about them. favorites threads never used to be huge long things, but you could at least use them without some cynical troll coming in to shit all over everything.

wg is for negative shit like that. if they want to spew their crap over there for no reason other than 'it got brought up on rpa in a good way', good for them. they'll likely get shot down over there for being a salty fuck. i'm just tired of seeing so much bad crap over here when someone attempts something semi-nice.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-10 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
RPA has been as bad as wg for years tho. It would be nice to change that.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-10 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
yes, please? i miss being able to have halfway positive conversations on here

(Anonymous) 2017-02-10 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I've always quietly wanted this tbh. Nothing stopping people from taking ten seconds to put the hate in another thread, but just making sure they don't interrupt and derail positivity directly could help things feel a bit better.
