anons, what do you think about fan theories that two canons are in the same universe just because one or both references the other? especially if the canons are created by the same person/company or the creators are friends.

I think it's kind of dumb. there's a big difference between in-jokes, fanservice, and this weird "everything is connected!!!" logic that occasionally pops up in conversations like this. if a comic creator draws a character that looks like sailor moon, that doesn't mean that sailor moon exists as a character in that comic. unless the authors explicitly state that work X is in the same universe as work Y, there's no reason to assume that they are.

I mean, every disney channel live action tween show has crossed over with at least one other disney channel live action tween show at least once but that doesn't mean there's a giant disney channel live action tween shared universe.

i think they're fun. like the one that the indiana jones series is just han solo's dream while he's frozen in carbomiums because of the little star wars easter eggs in the movies

but i think it's obnoxious if the creators encourage it too much. i dunno i don't like it when creators are too into their fandoms, like jj abrams, it just rubs me the wrong way

i like the theories as theories and usually figure that in practical execution, those crossovers would be horrible messes

like rick and morty and gravity falls

pretty fun in theory, enough multi-dimensional setup in both shows to render it not 100% impossible. makes for some fun rp reading. will never canonically cross those streams and im happy that way.
