Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

As someone who used to play an oc there, it was very hit or miss. I had some successful threads in my time and some unsuccessful threads where I was ignored/flaked on for established cr. The oldbies seemed a lot more insular and closed off so I would suggest focusing on newer players for meaningful cr.

Oh gosh I know this is so 2014 but I'm stuck in a level of Solavellan hell and I need help. I've never RP'ed from Dragon Age before and I'd love to find someone playing Solas who is either also new to playing this canon or is patient enough to play with someone new.

Visions press into your dreams and waking world like splinters at first. Foreign words linger in whispers, beginning as unintelligible murmurs that no one else seems to hear. Faces that were intimate yesterday begin to seem distant, alien—or perhaps the reverse is true and you come to know these faces better than ever before, as if you’ve lived another life with them.

It’s not sudden, and it’s far from painless, but through the headaches and confusion, you begin to get the sense that you don’t belong here. That the soils of Leith never bore your first steps or that the walls of Westerley weren’t your first cage—and for some of you, it's true.

Your life, your memories, your very history — all of it has been taken from you and replaced with a pantomime. Some people will never find themselves again, living under a veil of neural illusion until they’ve exceeded their usefulness. Others are like empty shells, their minds scraped clean and left bare for later repurposing—but perhaps they’re truly the luckiest, for theirs is a simpler journey in a world trembling on the brink of war.

Those who must reconcile who they are with who they were must do so in a time of political collapse and upheaval, of revolution and bloodshed. Their minds will crumble in tandem with the world around them and often—too often—they will have to make a choice between collecting the pieces of yesterday or living to see tomorrow.

Overjoyed is a quasi-AU panfandom dystopian cyberpunk game based in the Killjoys universe. The game runs concurrent with season one, complete with an overarching plot full of politics, revolution, and all the murky areas in between. AU memory loss can be either temporary or permanent at player's discretion.

I don't find that something to be embarrassed about at all, honestly. I think people who judge others for it are missing out. Many people write stories because they allow us to connect on some level. They are relatable. If I was an author I'd be moved to know that my work had that kind of impact on someone. So if your life is improved by fictional stories, I think that's something to be proud of. It shows empathy and critical thinking.

This is cute, and outside of OCs, I can definitely relate on picking up traits. Sometimes it's subconscious, sometimes it's intentional. But life is so enjoyable because of it, and if it doesn't interfere with being functional, who cares?

Ain't no shame in admiring fictional characters as heroes, anon. With superhero comics, there's a whole genre centered around the idea. The fact of the matter is some fictional characters are just fantastic role models and even though they're not real that doesn't mean the traits they exhibit are fake. Usually they're just written with some of the best traits people can have IRL.

One of my personal role models is Superman, especially the depictions where he's less like a god above humanity and more just a brave, determined, kind country boy who wears a cape made by his mom. All of the traits he has in those depictions are attainable but at an extreme that reminds me that those positive traits really can be pushed farther than I sometimes think to push them, and that it's good to try. It doesn't mean I exclusively admire fictional heroes like him, I usually admire them alongside my RL heroes, but I don't see why that's a bad thing. No matter who you're admiring, you're just admiring certain RL traits that are good to have, like courage, selflessness, kindness, and so on.

Everything that humanity has ever accomplished beyond basic survival has been motivated by a fundamental and irreducible fear of non-existence. Our conception of self and self-esteem generally is simply a buffer against the anxiety that comes with recognizing that we will cease to be. Culture is just a massive shared delusion to mitigate our fear of the unknown and ultimately of death. Thus we want to imagine certain works of art as timeless or to place value in family lines and offspring, to project ourselves beyond death. We take comfort in our value systems and the structures that arise from them, whether that's through conceptions of biological kinship, national/ political identity, religious faith, etc. This includes belief in the inherent value of ensuring the future of humanity through scientific progress. Indeed much of modern western life is devoted to the avoidance of death, the various euphemisms and stock phrases in mourning, the entire funeral home industry that serves to remove death from the ordinary course of life, from the home and onto the embalming table or into the crematorium. We build up the artifice to avoid the brutal reality.

TL;DR: Everything that we've ever done and will ever do is motivated by nothing more than our existential terror in confronting death.

I have a serious case of resting bitch face and am generally just not a particularly emotive person. When I was a kid, I got tired of people asking me why I was mad all the time or accusing me of not caring about things, so I started trying to emulate the facial expressions of my favorite anime characters (mostly from Pokemon) and basically tried to throw the same amount of exaggeration into all my reactions to things.

Somehow it worked.

culture may be a shared delusion, but it's a shared delusion that led to the creation of heavy metal albums and cheeseburgers, so i can't say that i'm too upset about it.
