Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

it is, all you have is an interest check and the hope of a game.

I would register that I got the message in a short and polite way.

I mean, if that really is the straw that breaks their back and they go to anyone they threatened to, how fucking ludicrous are they going to look when they send their caps? If anyone comes to me I can easily think of several reasons I would have responded, not least of all because acknowledging you will do as you're asked is not some kind of 'gotcha' last word. It's pretty necessary in that kind of exchange, and it's for their own peace of mind.

You're doing god's work istg

Don't worry about Titan Altera, I think your artbook link should cover me there, and I have the translated copy actually so you don't have to worry about that either!

If you want to spend money, I'd also recommend Clip Studio or SAI. If you don't want to spend money, Medibang Paint Pro or Firealpaca are both 100% free (and they're both basically the same thing although the former has Cloud saving options and you can use it on desktop and Android/Apple devices).

More tl;dr from someone who's dabbled in all of these programs.

SAI: it's lightweight good for all of your drawing needs, probably the best natural and smooth blending out of all the programs. Anon above got the price wrong, it's 5400 yen which translates to about 50 bucks for the program. Since a ton of people use it, there's a wealth of resources and tutorials on how to use it and easy to google. It lacks editing power for those final touches you may or may not use, the kind you can do in Photoshop for instance (although I know people plus myself keep photoshop around just for that purpose).

Here's hoping for Sai 2!!

CLIP STUDIO: Very powerful program, has more layer blending options compared to SAI and a lot of brush customization. It has more editing power and there's a lot of great tools at your disposal, making it a photoshop-lite that's geared towards comic people and illustrators. I guess one con is that depending on the tablet you have, it may not feel as great to draw in like SAI. I have a tablet that uses 2048 levels of pressure so I've gotten better results with that one compared to my Wacom Intuos Small. It's still a great program though and it's cheaper than SAI when it's on sale.

Medibang & Firealpaca: Grouping these together because as I said, they're both basically the same, just interface differences and Medibang Paint Pro has a special Cloud saving feature where you can basically work on a drawing on any device after opening the file from the cloud and you can download brushes and comic materials, kind of like Clip Studio. Oh yeah and both 100% FREE. Some people have compared them as a Paint Tool Sai-lite, and I'm inclined to agree because you get very smooth lines and the stabilizers are really good; brush customization isn't as powerful as Sai or Clip Studio, but it isn't bad, but you aren't going to get a lot of nice blending unless you tweak your brushes a bit more. You don't have a lot of layer options and the ones that are there aren't that good in my opinion. Unlike Sai, they have text tools and perspective rulers, so you can have straight lines or nice circles, yay.

The best thing about all these programs is that you can export your files as PSDs!

overwatch

(Anonymous) 2017-02-25 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
i'm still new to rping from overwatch, so this comes with the caveat of bearing with me as i work though how to play these barbies.

but i'm basically looking for zenyatta/genji and/or hanzo/genji! i have accounts for both zen and genji, but i'm not picky over which one i play.

anything with zen: i'm ok with him remaining omnic or any various kind of au you can think of (i saw a neat one on tumblr with zen having a "human" skin, sort of, over his omnic body, shit like that). as for genji, i don't have any specific headcanons about the state of his body, so that's open for discussion, too.

basically, build up would be a given with both (more so with the shimadacest, obviously) but eventual smut would be grand, too.

there's more i'd like to go over, but i won't trail on and on here. so, if you'd like to discuss anything, you can PM my sock: [personal profile] sirsocksalot! thanks for lookin. :)

Inkarnate is pretty easy to figure out and makes a nice-looking map.

Anyone know of a good place to get some Velvet icons?

(Anonymous) 2017-02-25 09:39 am (UTC)(link)
I use Krita, which is Open Source and I believe it was made specifically for painting.

Krita has a lot of brush and layer options (including clipping layers), as well as perspective tools. I think the default brushes are a bit meh, but you can get basic custom brushes for it that'll take you pretty far. I admit I just mostly use one or two brushes that someone else made, so I don't mess with the brush settings.

Features that I use frequently:
- keyboard shortcuts for adjusting brush sizes on the go
- keyboard shortcuts for swapping between multiple brushes
- keyboard shortcuts for rotating, zooming, and mirroring the canvas
- the program remembers the last ~10 colours I used on the canvas, so I don't have to make a separate palette if I finish the picture within a day

Other features I use occasionally:
- the ability to make custom guidelines, including guidelines specifically designed around helping you with perspective. Drawing concentric circles has never been so easy!
- an auto-colour feature for doing flat colours
- the crop tool comes with a 3x3 grid, helping you use the rule of thirds on your crops if you're not good at eyeballing it

This is just a small portion of what it can do, though; I haven't taken the time to look at Krita tutorials. It's a very powerful program, but I think less powerful computers may struggle with it, especially at larger canvas sizes.

krita! it's 100% free and i love it. i used to use sai and honestly, krita is better, at least imo.

uh i was original anon replier but yeah i was also thinking the same thing tbh. i actually like poppy so i'm interested to see if she'll actually get backstory or not. i'd be pretty disappointed if she was only there to be a mascot character. esp since her being a bugster seems to imply she might've had to take someone's life to be born

Paint Tool SAI, Mischief, Photoshop and Illustrator are the ones I currently use. Earlier I also used earlier versions of Corel Painter and Open Canvas.

Photoshop is the one most often used, and the most versatile. The mixbrush and variety of custom options starts to shine only with pressure and tilt sensitive stylus. Without it it's a still a great software, but if you're interested only in drawing I would check cheaper options, that work better with tilt-less sets.

Mischief has free version, and paid one is only 25$. Paint Tool SAI is a bit more expensive, but totally worth it .

I'd probably lean more towards the first/somewhat beyond the first - basically, something where the character can still at least stand up straight, albeit with some difficulty - but if that's okay, PM me!

(Anonymous) 2017-02-25 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I might be misremembering, but I thought David came to rescue Max regardless, because Chloe and Max left their Big Board of Clues™ up in Chloe's bedroom. So he went in there, saw all the shit they had pieced together, and figured out where to go to save Max.

When she texts David about Jefferson, he IS caught way earlier, which is what leads to Max being on the plane with the principal instead of being held captive. Then she goes back and has to UNDO that set of actions again so that she'll actually be back in Arcadia with Chloe, since the storm still hit. Then he shows up to rescue her.

Embarrassing fandom or RP confessions

I'll start.

I look up to a fictional character an embarrassing amount and find them inspirational (or rather, the concept of how they should be, as sometimes writers don't always execute brilliantly). Not in a soul bond way, or like I think they're real or anything, just that their traits and character growth have genuinely helped and inspired me to better myself. I'd never admit off anon that a fictional character is one of my heroes, for obvious reasons, but they are.

Gore level is minor (some dead bodies are shown, some cuts, bruises, etc. but it's not GUTS EVERYWHERE.)

Art is great, suspense is well done, the plot is slow burn and really feels more focused on the mystery elements than anything else. I'd rec it as a crime thriller with twisted Stockholm Syndrome romance elements, personally.
