that's a fair callout anon. i'm one of those ones who made a character be a high school student-- so i'll try to think outside the box there!

sa that said, if you want to get involved in the plot, we need to be tearing the industrial area apart right now. the last several events/npc interactions have all been giant 'head east' arrows. there was a keycard reader around the electric fence found today.

A meme tag with this guy, super dusty from before the great livejournal migration. Shaking him off a bit and hoping he'll stick around for a while.

Just a few quick ideas. Sorry if some of these aren't the BEST of the best, but they're the first ones that came to mind:

Doctors
Politicians
If you're really ambitious, you could try playing someone who starts off in prison or confined to a hospital bed. (Once their powers start to develop, they can escape/be "cured" of their illness)
A fake psychic who discovers they actually have psychic powers, but can't tell anyone about the new development without admitting that they've been totally faking it up until now.
Be a horse-handler or jockey who now has to deal with all of these chocobos.
Be a street kid who ran away from home and dropped out of school. They pick pockets to get by.
Be the owner or bartender of a bar where the seedy underbelly of Recolle hangs outs. Naturally, your unique position means you overhear a lot of interesting conversations. That's why you work as an information broker on the side.

but seriously, a+ taste in characters! xii is one of my favorite ffs, it always makes me happy to find people who play from it.

i felt like we had more of these (some of them specifically, even) on the last workshop

we have at least 2 bartenders/bar owners in game i'm not sure about doctors.

we've got a few criminals, though apparently the mods absolutely will not allow you to have established gangs or syndicates of any kind, which is kind of a stop in that wheel.

that's all over the faq, so it's not that surprising. you have to start it in game or something, which is something to work to? or do it outside the city.

It's my fav, that and 9! Hopefully there will be a little surge of XII players though, with the remaster coming out in July. I've been meaning to play him again for ages, as he used to be my main man back on livejournal.

it's not really a fair rule since that doesn't apply to any other type of job, just criminals as far as i can tell.

i don't think anyone else is allowed to start at the "top" or whatever either. personally i'm more interested in starting a syndicate up than having one already set, though, so ymmv.

having a gang isn't really starting "at the top", anon. no one was apping a mafia don, but pretty much anyone interested in building any kind of established underbelly in the game is out of luck. they all have to be outsiders, and that's just weirdly restraining and creatively limiting. it's a part of the worldbuilding we're not allowed to touch, when everything else is open.

fair enough, though i do get why mods wouldn't want like 50 criminal gangs in the city to keep tabs of off the bat. that's what i figured the issue was, honestly.

Anyone else having an easier time tagging newbies over oldbies?

i once had to have a friend give me some last-minute ac because none of the 6+ posts/logs i'd tagged in the week before the new months and been boomeranging every time i received a response came even close to reaching the required length by 11:30 of the last night. it was infuriating.
