1. This is your basic Game, Movie, TV Show, any thing that is a series really issue. Anyways plot threads. This depends on what you are talking about since KH1 CoM and KHII more or less resolved the bulk of their plot threads beyond a few thing regarding (why were Roxas and Sora able to reform, Who are the Armored wielders (Which got resolved in KH BBS), What really is the Keyblade). Basically beyond the second one, which was a hook, they were none issues. Most of the plot threads from BBS/Days to 2.8 are to help set up for III since most of the issues now had to be created. Riku's been found, Kairi's safe, Sora's back, the Disney gang is okay, and the worlds seem to be safe. Beyond Terra, there really was nothing left from the first three games to lookinto for KHII beyond what was put into that video. Everygame, even Re:Coded, has answered questions and provided avenues for the plot while also putting in some new plot threads. Why was Maleficent so knowledgeable about stuff she shouldn't be in the first game. Beyond Terra and Xenohart she had some form of access to the foretellers book of prophecies as shown by the ending of Chi, something that was put forwarded by Re:coded. And so on. Basically its the issue of people putting too much importance on the numbered games instead of seeing the games for what they are doing and resolving, while setting up some stuff for III to look at like CoM did for II.

2. This isn't a crossover in that way. It's a crossover of Square Enix and Disney. Hence why you get some square characters in Disney worlds and vice versa. But the focus isn't on that but on Sora. Who teams up with people to kick butts of the people in their way. Disney cartoon canon (Barring the classic Disney shorts) is terrible and unpopular barring a few episodes, hence why no one will ever recognize each other. And you got to realize that there is over like 70+ years of disney canon to work through and referencing any of that is a pain. At what point can they naturally reference Life and times of Scrooge without slowing the plot to a crawl? Or Max? Or Amelia? Or Oswald?

3. That was a flaw in KHII that squares been working on with each game. Also turn on Proud

2. Having 70+ years of Disney canon to work with isn't really an excuse. If anything it's all the more reason to feature lots of Disney's work with all the games that Square's made. Off the top of my head I can think of Pete's Dragon, Mary Poppins, the Rocketeer, the Rescuers, the Jungle Book (which WAS going to be in BBS), Robin Hood, the Sword in the Stone, Treasure Planet, the Black Cauldron, Tailspin, Darkwing Duck, Duck Tails, Chip and Dale, Gargoyles, WITCH (which already has Hearts factor into it from the get-go), etc. Heck, Gargoyles was supposedly considered for KHIII, so it's not like the 90s cartoons are entirely off of the table.

Granted some of this isn't necessarily Disney's A-material, but it's not like everything needs an entire world dedicated to it. Square couldn't include the Lion King in the original game for technical limitations but they still were able to put Simba in as a summon, and similarly Dumbo's been a summon too (at least for two early games).

And when you get to references, that's easy mode for tipping your hat towards other things you weren't able to directly feature. What's to stop Goofy from mentioning at some appropriate point (maybe when dealing with someone who's a father) that he's got a son? What's to stop there from being an item in reference to Bombie the Zombie and Donald not being happy of getting reminded of him? References don't have to be major thing, and they could be a way to encourage players to look into Disney's more obscure IPs.

for the record, Disney sets the rules on what can be used and now, Square doesn't have any freedom whatsoever in that regard, including any decisions for Disney characters to cross-interact. and Disney is famously strict on this kind of thing.

Disney also has lighten up a bit since kh2 were they kept an irongirp

they're less stingy now that KH is a proven success, yeah, but they still make the final decision on everything regarding their own properties. SE has to work within their rules.

That they do but after...not a flop but the sever cricisms of KHII follow the moives plot, which had to be because of disny, instead of a fun romp they really pulled away from that and seem to be just saying what canons are usable or not.

Which is why I think Olympus has been steadily shifting from just being tourney only.

they've lightened up some since KH2 but disney is still very protective of their IPs
