Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

Re: Smut game activity mechanics

i was the original person that suggested way back when that coa include a smut ac. at the time, it was needed.

now? not so much. people smut what they want when they want. i smut in my non-smut game all the time. so do others. if you absolutely feel you have to implement a smut ac, i'd advise something like a rotating bi-monthly mandatory smut ac. but lbr. in this dwindling playing era, trying to force people to play something if they might not be feeling it that month just hasn't been working well.

I understand where you're coming from. I don't want to have an unreasonable activity requirement in place; I've also been considering alternating or just going for a simple check-in. I'm still deciding what the baseline should be, but I want to have a system that rewards the players who put more time and effort into being active and engaged.

If someone isn't going to be interested in writing smut on a reasonably consistent basis though then they're probably just not a good fit for the kind of game I'd like to run. And that's ok, not every game will work for every player.

i can agree with you on all those points. not everyone fits every game, but the problem is, is that some people feel they can't admit that and stay too long in games they don't actually want to. or they feel that they have to have 'that spot' with their friends, even if they're not doing anything with it.

the bonus of modding and creating a game from scratch is that you can put in your own rules. tbh, i wish more mods would put a disclaimer in that they can approach players about their activity if they feel they're not holding up to the rest of the game. that would solve so many problems. the real tittybabies about it wouldn't join because they'd be 'triggered' by the rule, and the ones that do and try to skim by doing dick all can rightfully get called out for it. i'm also a pretty firm advocate for extra activity rewards. have a manageable ac if you want, but if it's a smut game, require smut threads/activity for the bonuses/rewards. seems fair.

I've definitely seen the kind of thing you're describing before. I feel like it's all about finding the sweet spot that encourages players to be active without making them feel too pressured and having AC feel like a chore. Lower activity players that are consistent and participate will still be able to earn rewards more slowly but I want higher activity players to feel like going above and beyond is really worth it for them. Activity like running open player plots and giving everyone more things to do should also be rewarded and encouraged as much as possible.

I'm also not averse to having this kind of rule either. I've modded in the past (although not a smut game) and dealt with more than one problem player who abused the activity rules. If for example someone's been in the game for several months but they're so sporadic in their tagging that they haven't completed even one smut thread, that's probably going to be something that needs to be addressed.

i'd be interested and in favor of a smut ac, if it were bimonthly (smut ac in jan, march, may, etc). it would be possible to make ac with smut even on an "off" month though, if the player wanted.

i think this would both keep to the spirit of the game you wanted to run, and help players with shyer characters or who preferred more gen cr buildup before smut ease into the game.

I'm thinking along the same lines, anon. I've decided to go with a bimonthly smut check-in type system with bonus points for the rewards system.

The way I'm thinking of having AC work currently is something like:

- Monthly check-in, just link a post/thread you're actively threading in from that month, gen or smut
- Bimonthly smut check-in, just link a post/thread you're actively threading smut in from the two month period
- You'll earn a bonus for submitting smut for the regular monthly check-in instead of gen, because it's a smut game
- You'll earn an extra bonus for submitting a smut thread/post with x numbers of smut comments or more (leaning towards 5 comments, maybe an additional bonus for 10)
- I'm thinking of doing simple Kink of the Month type theme events with a couple of kinks for people to choose from, so if you thread smut involving one or more of the highlight kinks you get another bonus

So it's very easy to stay in the game, but if you want to earn points for rewards every month you have to be a little more active and participating. You're still able to earn some points in other ways, like submitting completed smut threads, running open player plots, etc. so even the slowest players can eventually earn points if they keep plugging away at it even if they don't earn the max they can get in a month from AC.

I'm still trying to decide on the numbers for how many points things will cost and what rewards to have (status/power levels are a given).

Status and power levels are good ideas. Maybe characters could use points to purchase new powers that wouldn't necessarily have sex applicability, or that could expand their canon capabilities, or begin to power up unpowered characters. Maybe they could also use points to purchase items that could influence other characters in a sexy way (obviously they wouldn't be able to godmode another player just because they had magical item x, but it could be a plot point that led into more kink - like, say, a collar that once put on character y, rendered character y subservient to character x for an arbitrary period of time)
