love ur lack of an ic/ooc divide

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

I used to love playing magical-girl villains (muhahaha, I have a plot and monster for THIS WEEK) but unless you're a mod the amount of stuff you can actually do is so limited that it gets boring very quickly.

yeah, as someone who'd gladly play a magical girl villain, there'd have to be like, a way to kill off the character in a big climactic fight or redeem the character with the power of love and have them hang on as a supporting character because otherwise it's got the potential to be a bit one trick pony.

Honestly, it's not until you're on your own when you realise that every single magical girl antagonist in the history of ever has their motivation bound to a hierarchy.

So without minions to punish or a master to impress, being a magical girl baddie gets really boring, really fast.

I mean, unless you like playing the kind of final boss baddies which are THE GIANT LIVING ETERNAL EMBODIMENT OF UN-LOVE in which case every day is party day.

One idea I had for playing villains in a game like it was a Light vs. Grey kind of conflict, where a character could start off as a villain merely because she thinks the means are necessary for a greater goal, in sheer contrast to the heroes' ideals.

Naturally, once a bigger bad is revealed or cleaner means to do good, they could be brought over to the side of the good guys, which also seems to be rather common in Sailor Moon.

Maybe a villain can win for a while, too. Illusion of magical girl stakes and all.
