love ur lack of an ic/ooc divide

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

why? are the mechanics really different? (new fan, obviously.)

gaiden came out in that era of video game sequels where developers were unsure if people would pay to get the same product again, so it features mechanics that haven't really been seen in the rest of the series, such as dungeon-crawling (with wild encounters that trigger a traditional fe map), bizarre branching promotions, and mages learning new spells through a traditional rpg leveling system in lieu of tomes

da as well

i wonder if they will actually keep these mechanics, however. we'll have to see.

the trailer already showed that they're keeping the dungeon-crawling, so the rest have a good shot of making it in

Didn't the announcement trailer confirm they were keeping in all the unique mechanics?

If you look at the shot of Saber fighting, he counters the archer (and not with a throwing weapon or anything). In other words, the archer attacked him at melee range, which is how archers worked in FE2.

So at the very least they're keeping even little mechanical nuances like that.

FE2 features:

10 boat maps in a row
A bunch of random optional bosses that will slaughter you if you go fight them too early
Bow users that can attack at 1-5 range
A promotion system where the promotions are random
And a guy that gives you a silver axe, but the game has no recruitable axe users, so he tells you to sell it.
