Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

Murder games are games that are very much based off the overall premise of Danganronpa with elements of other genres involved. Pretty much they involve a group of characters who have been kidnapped and trapped somewhere. The characters are then told that to escape they have to successfully murder someone and not be caught. When they do this everyone else will die and they go free. The games tend to run on a format of someone dies on Friday and an investigation is run, trial happens on Saturday and then execution after that and then you get to do it again the next week.

The games may have some variations, but pretty much they are very intense games that run around 2-3 months on average and have about 30-40 characters with no new arrivals, just people dying. Expect high activity levels, weekly ACs and not much in the way of backtagging to previous weeks.

It's very much worth it to consider giving it a shot and some of the games will run mock trials before a round to let newbies give the format a try and see if it's something they would enjoy and even those can be a blast.

Danganronpa and by extension other murdergames are based on the party game Mafia. The root of murdergames is older than you think. This doesn't really change your explanation, I'm just petty about details.

That may be true, but the genre of short term DWRP games termed as murder games have a lot more in common with Danganronpa than Mafia. Mafia doesn't tend to get mentioned because that's another style of short term games and mentioning Mafia tends to mislead as to how the mechanics work.
