next time he does this, give him a really hurt look and be like "dad, i don't know what you're talking about. i already did X,Y, and Z. i've done it this week, i'll do it again tomorrow [or whatever best fits your actual helping around the house.] when you call me lazy and pretend like i don't do anything, it really hurts my feelings when i'm doing my best."

other scripts: "you know i help around the house a lot. i'm limited when i'm in pain, just like you are, but i do want to give you [and family] a hand."

"you know i can't do that, dad, because [something about pain and limited mobility.] is there something else i can help you out with though?"

"look, dad, i love you and i'd really help you if i could."

the attitude to take is "hurt, sad, a good child trying your very best." don't be afraid to show that you're vulnerable, just fucking practice your sad eyes on him, anon. tell him no, but then redirect him to something you can/are willing to do.

as someone who has none of the disability problems that you and your dad has, but DOES have a mother who was totally blind to everything i do or did and spent a lot of time lecturing me on those things, this tactic has actually worked really well for me.

This sounds so cool. I love the idea of getting 'born' into clusters and stuff.

this might work with someone less assholish, but for someone truly committed to BOOTSTRAPS, you're probably only going to be wasting your time.

I'm venturing into the land of the DCnU and Rebirth mostly because I miss having DC on my pull list. Anybody got any recs or is/was it all a steaming pile of shit? I remember not being happy with a bunch of early nu52 issues but never read much past #3s.

the idea of convincing anyone to change their minds about anything is a fantasy. it's made-up. it'll never hapepn.

i'll be honest, i'm not a fan of the secretly robots angle because i think that the same metaplot could be achieved without it and making some characters into robots would be more of an au than a memory wipe, imo.

i also think you may be going a little too full force into it. i know the setting and concept leaves a lot open to work with, it's part of the fun of it and what makes it a great potential dwrp setting, but i feel like you're overloading on possibilities. robots aside, i completely support a lot of what you're thinking of doing, but i think you should slow down and consider what you want available to people from the very beginning of the game and what you'd like to introduce later on so you don't burn yourself out.

I see where you're coming from there, and as you op says the memory wipe thing does solve that problem without the need to involve robots at all. I could probably be flexible with it, it just does seem a bit sad to go westworld with the theme and then leave out the robots bit completely.

But yes, the idea certainly wouldn't be to throw all these things at it at once, I just wanted to give op the whole pitch, rather than spring dinosaurs on them out of nowhere in eight months time. I see what you mean though, so I will cool my roll. It would be way too much otherwise, as you say.

it's true that if someone is a true huge asshole there's no way to ever convince them of anything. that said, there's something to be said for playing on the "aren't we all faaaamily here, and REAL family wouldn't hurt me this way :CCC" and "i'm doing my best to be a model of a good dutiful child for you" scripts that shitty parents often use as a weapon against their children. you're not only using your own hurt feelings (which assholish people honestly don't give a crap about) as leverage, you're using hurt feelings + faaaaamily + a hint of flattery ("i really do want to make you happy, i'm trying so hard just for youuuu") to see if you can weasel your way out of getting dumped on

A: Yes, it’s all of that. It’s kind of this uh, futuristic, NASA-like institution that also trains the upcoming astronauts. So we see, you know the school aspect of that with our young paladins, but when Shiro crashes in we see all of those response vehicles that go out after that. That’s the kind of more military aspect. So they’ve arranged all of the space travel, but also train the new recruits.

this. it's not so much that moana was afraid, but that her people were afraid and her learning to be a wayfinder and proving herself helped show them that they didn't have to be afraid anymore. they could still hold to their true call of being voyagers because it was safe again to do so.

like another anon mentioned, her father was like her, only had the fear beat into him with the loss of a friend. moana didn't let the fear hold her after she almost died and instead pushed through it to keep going and saved the day. that's moana's greatest strength, the ability to see beyond the fear just as she always wanted to see beyond the reef.

nine times out of the ten someone claiming it in the dwrp circle is going be full of shit, though, so i'm with the other anons at banning them at the get-go and washing my hands of it.

i hadn't quite thought of it that way and you're right. belle is very judgmental of others and sees them in a negative light, assuming everyone is judging her the same way (which is what the song "belle" is all about). she had to learn to look past the surface and see people as people and not just characters in a story playing out for her to see.

it makes the ending of the movie more understandable for me too, now, since i always felt like belle gave up her dreams of seeing the world to be with Beast. but really it was more than she assumed the world had more to offer her than what was right in front of her because she didn't think her little town was good enough for her and her imagination. she had to learn that the grass can be just as green where you are if you bother to look at it.

I still wait for a game able to give me similar feelings...
