I know of a good alternative:

It's a one time buy of 50$! I haven't used it yet, but I use their Illustrator alternative and it's really sweet, so I'm sure their PS alt is good, too.

Re: TANAGURA

(Anonymous) 2017-01-13 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
the game is on cruise control to the end of the road. i'm not sure i can say it's dying yet, there are still a lot of miles to put o the car, but it's shrinking and I don't think the game is going to have a sudden renaissance of life spring back into it anytime soon. the mod plot is supposedly ending this year so once that's done, the game will assuredly die even if mods say the game will be playable after that. we all know it's just not going to work out.

i dropped for a combination of reasons, most of them really just personal preference. i will preface this with saying tanagura was easily one of the BEST game experiences i've had in fucking years. it's a good game! the setting is awesome, the level of detail in everything is awesome, the plot is dynamic and multi-layered and interesting, the NPCs are unique and sexy, the player-base is always very communicative and i've been able to play out a HUGE variety of kinks in this game. if you're thinking of joining, absolutely do it.

as for my reasons...when the mods changed over last year the events became a lot more pre-programmed feeling. instead of my character making an impact, my character became background a background number to a pre-determined path of A) B) or C) with little wiggle room. the new mods, i've found, despite very open communication were much less inclined to flex a little creativity or improvise if a player prompted something. instead of rewarding whatever action was most in-character, what was instead rewarded was whether it fit inside a schedule and aligned with the NPC or mod agenda. even Mary's black market raids still didn't really fundamentally change anything from what i could see (other than serve as a great narrative for her and CR which is still awesome) it felt like it was not encouraged to color outside of the lines of sign up/vote for A) B) or C) anymore, if that makes sense.

i know, who joins a sex game for the plot? but tanagura's plot is really something. so for me, it just wasn't what i was looking for anymore. tanagura now runs like any other game out there. it's a mod plot! sign up for things! or don't because things are going to happen anyway! NPCs do stuff because of A) B) or C)'s numbers but actually interacting with them is a joke! it's become a lot more streamlined but lost a of that creative flexibility i enjoyed from the earlier mods. i think also it had a lot to do with the player base changing, and the majority of the current player base seems a lot less interested in engaging the plot in a deeper sense outside of a few veterans. maybe it's laziness, maybe it's timidness, maybe it's apathy, maybe it's the mod's presentation of it, maybe it's just the way the plot is legitimately going, who knows? (i know a lot of people are divided on how NPCs should operate in a game, so,) i know i didn't jive with it anymore, that's all.

but i think tanagura still has a unique place in the dwrp marketplace. sex games are still in the minority there are literally no other cyberpunk-y games out there right now. 2017 has only just begun and tanagura still has many months of life left in it. if you want quality kink and easy to communicate with players (some hit or miss with speed, and yeah, skewing younger ani-manga) with a background of cool plot and political intrigue? yeah this is your game. if you want to use that political intrigue to ramp up the dynamics in your cr, this definitely is your game, but you're going to have to put the work into it to reap the rewards. if you want a game that changes your character and make them grow, this is your game. if you want a game with all that but your character can also change the game and make it grow...those changes have already been set, imo.

Hello! I compiled all the translations I could find and shoved them in a single entry in hopes that makes searching for translations a lot easier. I will continue to update the masterpost for as long as I continue playing the game.

I hope people will find it useful o/

because it's easy. it's easy to find shirts that are aligned with something you're interested in

not everyone keeps figurines. not everyone keeps dvds or blu-rays. not everyone wants posters or pillows or whatever else, but people figure, hey, everyone wears clothes

Re: MOANA

(Anonymous) 2017-01-13 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you make some really good points, especially about it seeming like a loosely connected series of parts, but I don't agree about some of the things you're calling irrelevant. People are portraying this as a "good vs evil where one girl is chosen to save the world against the villainous villain" story, when I actually see it more as a coming of age story where the challenges along the way come from the world, instead of one particular source of evil. To me, it makes the hurdles faced with the crab and the coconut pirates more understandable and believable. The whole film is about Moana's struggle between wanting to be who she is and do what she loves, and the fact that beyond loving it, she has no idea what she's doing. The pirates and Tamatoa show that the life she wants isn't all sunshine and rainbows, that there are real dangers in the world that she has to learn to face, and she has to find ways to rise to the challenge of surviving.

In terms of the pirates, I do think they were pretty random, but they gave Maui and Moana each a chance to see the others' abilities -- or in Maui's case, the lack thereof (without his hook). I do wish they were incorporated better, or were at least less of a one-shot moment (if a small band of them was tracking the main characters for more of the movie, maybe). But the thing that stands out so much in their whole scene is the fact that for an action sequence, the girl was doing all of the action work. Maui sort of helped every so often, but it really went a long way for showing how capable Moana is at defending herself, at thinking quickly and resourcefully.

As far as giving Te Ka minions goes, I disagree. Te Ka is not a big bad villain. Te Ka is a creature who has been violated, who has had an important part of herself taken away for hundreds of years, and is lashing out mindlessly because of it. In that way, she's not unlike the Deer God from Princess Mononoke. Her feelings of anger and hurt and betrayal are in charge, not her. Having minions goes against that idea of a character, because she's not in control of her own actions. That's what's so great about Moana, to me. There is no world-ending evil mastermind. Throughout the entire storyline, from the creation of Te Ka onward, the characters are forced to fix problems that they, themselves, have created. Te Ka is Maui's biggest mistake, and just as in the confrontation with Tamatoa, he's forced to face the fact that alone, all he can do is keep running from it.

Also, re: her people becoming voyagers again, the main reason they stopped was because of her father's fear/wish to protect his people, but it wasn't the only reason. They had, over years and years of being land-based, lost all the arts of navigating the seas that they used to possess. He lost a dear friend trying to go out on the sea, and banned leaving the reef because of it. Why did he lose his friend? Because neither of them knew what the hell they were doing. They could boat along well enough, but the actual art of wayfaring, of being able to read the wind, the sea, the stars, was lost to them. Maui taught Moana how to do that, so when she returned, she could teach the rest of her people how to do that. They're doing it again because she showed them how to go back to that way of life.

Best examples of game nav/info?

(Anonymous) 2017-01-13 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
What are your favourite examples of games that have organized their navigation and info pages well?

I've got a bunch of active and recent games open to use as reference while I build a game (I'm new to this!), but I'd like to focus on a navigation and info system that's useful to new players who need to info-dump before apping, players in-game looking for a tidbit in the middle of threading with someone, and for mods who need to cite info for questions or contentions.

Short and sweet for contents, obviously, but GUI/graphics, layout/navigation and break-down of what kind of information fits best together are where I'd like some help.

how do you care about someone you don't know so much that you can worry about them for two years?

anon above said she didn't give out personal info about herself and used her plurk as a mod plurk. i get wondering what happened after an abrupt disappearance, sometimes i wonder what happened to people i used to rp with years ago, but it's an idle curiosity. i never knew them well enough to angst about their well being years later.

so i'm agreeing with anon you responded to. it does sound a little like an obsession.

I had a minor crush on an rp partner a long time ago. They were really cool, and I definitely had the "I hope senpai notices me" feelings. They were just a really cool person, and even though our characters weren't shipping, I really enjoyed talking to them and playing with them. We shared a lot of game- and non-game friends, and became friends outside of RPing, so we kept in contact even after we stopped playing. Years later, we happened to be in the same area, and became RL friends, although we don't RP anymore. Long story short, 12 years after we originally met online, we're married and totally in love.

i'm one of those that likes getting shirts for people, because usually it's easy to ask someone "hey what's your unisex shirt size", it's affordable, and i like to get people gifts they'll use, not just put on a wall/shelf and look at sometimes.

that said if someone told me "don't get me a shirt please" i'd back the hell off so idk what this guy's issue is. i know not everyone wants clothing as a gift and yeah, some people have specific sizing needs. i'm a dude with tiny feet and loathe receiving shoes as a gift so i kinda understand it.

however, i thought of an idea while typing this reply: if he DOES get you the shirt anyway and it doesn't fit, cut the design out and put it in a cheap frame or something, assuming the design is a good enough one to do this with.

You didn't bother reading through all of the mod responses in the plurks, did you? They said quite clearly Thisavrou will begin to react to the addition of the PCs and degrade. They quite clearly hinted that things will not remain all peaches and cream for long, that just as until now, the events balance out the lulls in between. (Like someone else pointed out, how does SOL in space differ very significantly from SOL on planet? That's more or less what Savrou was even when they were still on the ship, when they weren't dealing with the Ingress crap etc.) As for the "no rulebreaking" etc. complaint, I've seen a lot of excited planning on my timeline for a bit more shadier characters to start up business ventures that might potentially create something of an underworld to the setting, which could be really interesting to play around with.

Most importantly: WE DON'T YET KNOW how the game will shape out to be once the shift over happens. We don't know what sort of events will start to take place and what their tone will be. You don't have a lot of faith in the mods if you think that after all the great, diverse things they came up event- and plot-wise for on-ship Savrou translates to "pure SOL all the time forever after, amen". This assumption of yours is what booty bothers me the most in this whole argument.

If you apped purely for the sake of being stuck in a spaceship, then I can sort of understand your issue. But I doubt the aspect of space travel will go anywhere even with the shift. I sincerely doubt we won't get aspects of action/adventure/horror to balance out the more SOL side. You say it's a shitty attitude to write off people complaining about the change as crybabies. Well, writing off the whole game before we've even seen anything of the new setting and the gameplay seems like an equally shitty attitude to me.

not in this game and just passing by, but relevant info to the game that talks about changing it shouldn't only be found in plurks. especially not game plurks, since a lot of people stop reading those due to the large amount of weird chatter by certain folks (they exist in all games) who turn mod plurks into cliquey buttpats and overtalking. post an ooc post about things that are that important to the game as a whole.

(Anonymous) 2017-01-13 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I love you drive-by anon experts. The plurks were pastebinned to the OOC comm. As was the heads-up about when and where the OOC chat was going to take place a couple of weeks in advance.
