All the pretty little anons

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

honestly the thing I appreciate the most is having some visualization of the gameplay aspects, like how the citadel and the time travel and battles all actually work in a more fleshed out way.

it's a godsend for having to explain to other characters how shit works in swordboy world.

"oh, hey, it's the thing!" "oh, so that's how it works"

I'm lucky enough that one of my swords muse doesn't care enough to explain. But it's great to have some answer for my more serious swords.

Now I just need the anime to show how troops work. If they do show them.

and now, we have the ritual!

it looks like the swords are actually shikigami, not tsukumogami like we all thought, which since they're all servants of the saniwa ANYWAYS, that makes sense.

Characters actually refer to each other as tsukumogami officially, but it was interesting to see the ritual! I was expecting the forge mechanic to be used so I'm really curious if that will come into play later.

not that I don't believe you, but do you have a source on them referring to one another as tsukumogami?

given how shikigami can be anything, so long as the proper ritual is applied, there's nothing saying they can't be both, but the paper doll ritual is pretty clearly onmyoudo, so that explains a bit more about what the sword boys actually are.

Yeah! You can see it in some of the game lines, like Hasebe in part 22 (http://touken-ranbu.wikia.com/wiki/Recollections/Part_21_-_Part_30). The production staff for Hanamaru uses the term too. (https://twitter.com/touken_hanamaru/status/713586727529525249)

It's neat to get some more info on what they are either way though, and them being both would be a neat twist imo.

da

in most ways I've seen it described, shikigami is more a status or state of being rather than a unique creature in and of itself like any other youkai or kami would be. abe no seimei was said to have actual gods/kami as his shikigami, for example.

so it is absolutely believable that the swords are tsukumogami, but at the same time bound to the saniwa as the saniwa's shikigami.

Oh yeah, that makes a lot of sense! Thanks for the explanation, anon.

Episode 4 spoilers??

... Hilariously, the summoning shiki was designed purely because Hanamaru Saniwa is a hikikomori.
