You sound fat

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

i'm more impressed that hello_quizzy is even still around, i thought it went the way of geocities years ago

no one cares

the whole point of this conversation is that hardcore gamers are embarrassing fucks and for better or worse they fly to moba games like moths to the flame, as evidence by ayrt's wannabe-superior-but-really-just-neckbeardy response to the other anon

What I mean by over-exposed is what made memes successful and huge back in the day is you didn't have them on the daily, much less multiple memes per day.

Now it's a constant noise wall of meme content, good or bad, and people tend to get bored more quickly of stuff that's always on versus special happenings.

really tho

people might shake and cry about dwrp dying now but I'll believe it when rpa is just as much of a wasteland of spambots and tumbleweeds as it is on lj rn

I'll give you that they're smaller, but tbh I think they're better for it. In the day when games were so huge and so active that you'd miss an extraordinary amount of content if you were out for a day. Personally, I don't miss that time.

But if you mean dying? Anon, there's dozens of games out there, and people are playing in them and enjoying themselves. Some games close, some stay open for a year or more, but they're still there, and new games are still being made. They aren't dying just because they aren't huge unwieldy affairs anymore.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-22 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
which game is this? because if it'd dc, that's not why it's doa.

anon, idk how to break this to you, but LoL has about 27 million people playing it per day, and an even larger installed userbase. That's not really a hardcore minority. Plenty of casual people play it, too.

wouldn't recommend it, tbh, because the hardcore kids are obnoxious shitheads and treat most of the casual players like crap, but they're still there.

is it a reference from that unfunny japan video or some other wacky internet meme

(Anonymous) 2016-05-22 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
i think this is a sympton of dwrp's decay more than a cause of it, you might notice how it's always the same meme posters pushing certain memes and how every now and then a new meme poster comes along only to be quickly chased off in a flurry of wank

multiple memes per day is good. multiples of the same old memes day in and day out, week in and week out, is another matter. but when new memes are posted they just languish with >10 comments anyway because everybody's afraid to tag a meme that's not tfln

give it a few more years

(Anonymous) 2016-05-22 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
you strike me as one of those players someone else mentioned who is insulated from the reality because you only play in games

also i detect a touch of denial with the "yeah they're smaller but that's actually a GOOD thing!" attitude. do you think there written smaller, more intimate games for people who wanted smaller and intimate back then? i like smaller and more intimate myself, but when there's no games at all that are as large as the games of yesteryear, the conclusion's kind of inescapable

(Anonymous) 2016-05-22 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
go2bed that one dragoncalled stan, you killed your own game with your incompetence

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2016-05-22 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
yes, but if you find that video unfunny, you're probably an unfunny person, sorry

(Anonymous) 2016-05-22 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
you go to bed, troll. don't you have anything better to do than shit on everything and think you're funny when you're not?

(Anonymous) 2016-05-22 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think we can maintain the creative energy to post multiple memes a day and NOT devolve into the same old memes day in and day out.

no one's afraid to tag a meme that's not tfln, I just think most memes genuinely aren't interesting any longer due to over-exposure. And eventually tfln will run its course and barely scrape out a few un-tagged top levels, too.

we're basically killing the product by making too much of it

(Anonymous) 2016-05-22 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah and wow has 12 million people playing it in its heyday, that didn't stop it from getting its just rep as a soul-sucking pit for people to forfeit their jobs, families and social lives all in short order

lol is just the successor for that demographic. plenty of normies play it casually on the sly but they wouldn't identify with the culture like neckbeardy anon does

(Anonymous) 2016-05-22 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
tragic: looking at your old abandoned ao3 accounts for shitty fandoms and realizing how much more kudos, bookmarks and praise your half-baked fics have than anything you're actually proud of

(Anonymous) 2016-05-22 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
nor your nemesis, sorry, just someone who watched from the sidelines with popcorn.gif

(Anonymous) 2016-05-22 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
am I behaving like I'm insulted just because I don't agree with you?

yeah, there are no games at all as large as the supergiant games once were, and that's not a bad thing.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-22 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
clarifying something doesn't make anyone a stan, btw. if i had the same info on any other game closing, i would have left it. considering i've seen people complaining on plurk that 'the mods wasted our tiiiiiiiime' and that the real reason the head mod is mia is because of wank, clarity is in order. people are allowed to do that.

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2016-05-22 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
i dunno, anon, WoW got that reputation more because it's a massive time investment. games in LoL take, what, twenty minutes? thirty minutes?

i know plenty of people you wouldn't think are gamers (and don't even identify as such) admit to playing League. And maybe you know plenty of people who wouldn't dare say aloud because, as we both agree, the LoL community is super toxic. but I still think it's well known enough that a casual player would recognize it and know what it is, and recognize when other games are like it.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-22 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
then what about genuinely new mods and/or memes that haven't been posted in years? by this logic they should do fine due to not being "over-exposed" by inevitably they sink like stones

why do you think tfln is literally the only meme left that racks up thousands of comments? there's literally a subset of dwrpers who only lay on memes for tfln because it's the only meme that isn't scrutinized by anoncomms. they can be as ooc and cockhoppy as they want without fear

back in my hometown there's a mall with a movie theater attached, the whole mall is empty and has been on the auction block for years but the movie theater is still open. i feel like that's bakerstreet's future, eventually it's going to be nothing but all tfln all the time. the bakerstreet mods have already started allowing 2nd tfln "overflow" posts because it's literally the only meme on bakerstreet that gets any significant traffic

(Anonymous) 2016-05-22 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
no, you're not behaving inappropriately. i just don't think you're understanding the reality here

no supergiant games is a bad thing. even if you don't like supergiant games (and i personally don't), their presence is an indicator of a thriving community. i didn't have any use for them before and i don't know, but i also know we're a lesser community for their absence

(Anonymous) 2016-05-22 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think this is me not understanding, I think this is us having a subjective disagreement, because I don't see supergiant games as indicators of thriving community. I recognize we're smaller without them, I just personally don't see that as a bad thing.
