40something warehouse owner with drinking and money problems, transformed by a curse into a werewolf in his late 30s. was so terrified of the experience that he became a control freak after getting his mind back. is now a mercenary with extra body hair and hates being in situations where his enhanced senses are useful.

undead dwarf (of the fantasy hihohiho variety) necromancer-vampire. surprisingly polite and cheerful, in her own absentminded way. she enjoys sheep cheese, microcline, the unholy screams of the damned, and cows for their haunting moos. she absolutely detests flies. a short, sturdy creature fond of drink and industry. she needs alcohol to get through the working day, and grumbles only mildly at inclement weather.

youngish proto-elf that up and left her violently xenophobic and heavily patriarchal people for a neighboring and slightly nicer settlement. still xenophobic, but less prone to violence than she is just robbing someone for kicks. likes taking potshots at people, telling (awful) stories, and riling other people up. is good with animals. needs to be taken down a peg or five.

thank you, thank you. i only wish i could play some of the weirder things you find in Dwarf Fortress. i've had some fantastic werebeasts show up to wreck my fort, but nobody will buy a weretortoise in rp.

I'd totally buy a weretortoise. I'd also totally buy a DWRP based off of the events of Dwarf Fortress. Starts out as a fairly legit settlement game and then spirals into a miasma of madness? Missing left fourth toenails?

Trapped in a hell-well of water and locking doors?

Why has nobody done this??

i remember seeing a DF game under construction on plurk a couple of years back. never knew what became of it.

i also tried my hand at making one, but ye gods that's a ton of work. i don't think i'd make a very good moderator, either.

what i'd really like to do is run a D&D-style campaign where the party sets off to reclaim an abandoned fortress that went dark suddenly, and nobody in the mountainhomes knows why. the focus would be on exploring and discovering what happened there, all while being careful not to pull the wrong lever.

Hell yes, that would be a fantastic game! It would be difficult to run on DWRP unless you're planning on pulling from a group of friends, rather than making DWRP style game... unless you split the players into smaller parties and had mini-mods as party leaders...

That'd take so much coordinating. >:I

see, i could make it a DWRP-style game, but the expectation would be that it'd be panfandom. i would rather have a game where people make dorf characters and play them with all their quirks. on a practical level, it could make the app process shorter and easier while making icons irrelevant, which seems to be the source of a lot of angst in rp. i'm also a big believer in making/playing OCs, because you have the potential for more variety with characters.

if i knew that there was a dedicated group who'd be into it, i'd give it a shot. but outside of a handful of DF enthusiasts, i think an OCs-only dorf game would be a really hard sell here on DW.

I would make a dorf OC and app them in. You and I think alike on the OC front in any case! I usually draw my icons but it'd be hilarious if people tried to find PB's for their dwarf characters. So long as the icons weren't taken seriously, necessarily, it could be fun!

You'd probably make it more of a campaign-focused musebox with a shout-out to OC-makers and DF enthusiasts when it came time to sniff out players. I dunno, I'd totally snap up something like this. DWRP as a space for OC's and fun off-kilter little games is something I've badly wanted for a long time.

if they're OCs, props to you, these sound great

they're all OCs based on an existing canon. the dwarf is heavily based on the dwarves from Dwarf Fortress. if you can get the hang of it, you'll come across characters *way* more insane than my necromancer up there.
