"cw; issues of consent, sexual irresponsibility, unsafe sexual practices"

how pa do you even have to be

how is it pa? honest question

im assuming pa stands for passive aggressive here, aka explicitly claiming everything is great while being performatively miserable until people give you what you want without requiring a direct confrontation or asking for it

like the warning seems a little over the top to me but better to overwarn than underwarn and it has nothing to do with what I understand as pa behavior?

They're talking about how the couple had sex without a condom, and they put a trigger warning for unsafe sex practices. As in, they're saying sex without condoms is so terrible of a thing that it might trigger people into having bad flashbacks.

That does seem a little PA to me.

dude it's not unsafe just because they didn't use a condom, it's unsafe because he's physically toxic and prolonged bodily contact gave her radiation poisoning

also it says CW, not TW - literally 'content warning'. content warnings aren't just for triggers, they're a heads up to anyone who would prefer not to read that content.

I think the addition of 'consent issues' is pushing it a little, but since he clearly didn't figure out what risks she would would actually be exposed to and since she didn't have the opportunity to make a fully informed choice about them, I can see why they figured better safe than sorry

I'm pretty sure it's not PA if only because Murder and the other player are obviously friends and have discussed this one out beforehand.

Murder was the one who suggested warning.

After being called out for not marking her own shit, yeah. Look at how long it took them to add these warnings. They only came when people started having issues with the lack of warnings.

as a survivor of sexual assault, i would be pretty fucking pissed if someone labeled my consensual sex as sex with consent issues because there were unintended consequences

I think the "consent issues" idea comes up more in Megamind's response to it all.

+1

(Anonymous) 2014-09-03 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Not just Megamind's though, Murder is having both of her characters imply there was no consent.

it doesn't say non-con though, just consent 'issues'

and disclosure is generally a consent-related issue

in this specific case, the consequences were unintended but pretty dang forseeable and it was wrong for him not to give her the heads up, just like somebody with a potentially harmful STD ought to warn partners - and remember, she's from before radiation was even discovered, so it's not like she had a way to know what she was getting into in terms of the effects of radiation

if murder were labeling it non-con that would be super inaccurate and out of line, but 'issues' is vague and makes sense given the basically consensual but kinda messy circumstances

dont get me wrong, murder has done all kinds of shitty things, but I don't think erring on the side of warning a little too much is really one of them

not that I particularly want to tag this character, but why the fuck do so many posts in this game not have any open portion whatsoever

like goddamn sometimes tagging out is an impossible task because everything is locked to hell

I think it's partly the premise - the whole inmate mechanic + roulette of barge shenanigans and betrayals means a lot of the characters are ICly paranoid and/or arrogant and disinclined to address everyone publically

which isn't an excuse, I included open spam sections in otherwise all-locked posts for months to try to broaden CR when my inmate was new and cagey, there are def ways around it

but I do think this game tends to attract a disproportionate number of characters for whom writing public posts is more difficult

I'm sorry you're struggling, anon, but I have some posts with open portions coming up and I hope I'll get your tags :3

yeah I think you're correct -- the game attracts a lot of characters with serious trust issues and leaving everything open would be ooc. but I also agree that people could make more of an effort with open spam posts overall. I try to do one in every post I make.

we should bring back DITL posts, I haven't seen one in ages but they're really good for short circuiting this kind of thing

Usually people include some kind of open spam or something that's taggable. I know I always make sure I do unless it's only a specific must-message-this-exact-person-RIGHT-NOW post.

My open spam ones mean I'm always open to being tagged.

Yeah, this is a really weird plot and I'm not overjoyed that it's all over the Barge.

Actually, I want to elaborate on my thoughts further. (this is sa.)

I'm an adult. I can take mentions of people's vaginas and sex lives and "hey everybody let's use condoms." I'm not all that pleased when descriptions of vaginal burns shows up linked in everyone's plurks. And if you want to know why everyone's suddenly mad at this one character, you have to read more, and that's when I unpleasantly ran into vaginal burn descriptions.

I'm not triggered or anything, I'm not really mad. Just kind of grossed out, I think. If this plot was going to be a thing, I would rather it not be such a big one.

I don't think anybody planned it to be a big plot - I dont think it even is one

it's just kind of a slow couple of days and some of the people involved are really amused by the fallout

i am actually sorry for that pun but i can't think of a better word for what's happening

and also sorry you read something that grossed you out, I definitely backed way out of Bleu's thread when I realized what must be going on
