i'm thinking about dropping out of all my games and doing memes/psl stuff instead. i've heard that can be tough since those always take a backseat to game tags and most rpers are in games.

to any anons who have done this, is it better or did you go back to games because it wasn't worth it?

meme/psl life is a lot less stress, and if you can get stuff going, it's a lot of fun... it's just kind of hard to get stuff going

Went back to games. IMO, best approach is to have an easy AC game and do memes/psl stuff on the side.

i'm a psl only anon and tbh while i've looked at other games now and then i don't think i want to go back. i really like the flexibility of psls, setting things on my schedule, always knowing exactly how many threads you're signed up for, playing out exactly what i want to play, whatever setting, AU, headcanon i want, and also never doing another intro or random chatter thread ever again.

it can be hard to find the right people you click with, and i know i got lucky finding a great partner pretty early on. since then i've tossed out a bunch of feelers and only a few of them have really resulted in good threads that don't get dropped a few tags in, but all of these threads are fantastic and a lot of fun so i'm not looking to go back

Memes are great if you know how to interest people in your tags. I set up detailed, but not overly detailed, openings that leave plenty of space for the other person to insert their character. I find that people are more willing to interact with my characters if they're able to do whatever they want.

i've been doing psl's since last year and tbh i don't think i'll ever go back to games. it's the most fun i've had in years. the tricky part is finding someone who will tag back regularly and who isn't a flake. luckily my partner doesn't play in games and only does psls too, so I get at least a tag per day, at over 1000 words per tag.

basically ymmv but finding someone reliable is really important imo.

Agreeing with the first reply that it’s hard to get stuff going.

I considered trying this for a while because my game was closing but didn’t have much luck personally. I figured it was probably because I play obscure characters and only have limited interest in shipping. They did okay in games but just didn’t get much interest in memes even if I tried to include a bit of character info or sometimes even starters in my comments. I also didn’t know a lot of the popular canons so blank comments being the norm in memes made attempting to tag around difficult. I ended up apping into another game instead.

it's great if you have a friend who is also ready to leave games and just do psls. my friend and i have been solely psl-ing for the past year and a half, and our storylines are practically game scale so it's very satisfying. but if you're trying to get quality psls and memes with strangers, you're probably not going to get far.

because not everything DOES translate to english that easily? which isn't even exclusive to japanese, the colloquial lost in translation exists for a reason. we just don't use phrases like "come on senior/superior/veteran" in traditional english so that example is pretty much bunk. a lot is implied through tone, pronoun usage, etc. that there's no smooth equivalent for which is why there's always a great debate whether dubs should just stick with saying senpai or whatever or cut it out entirely.

i will agree that referring to all m/m or f/f as yaoi/yuri when it makes no sense in context is dumb but you're seriously oversimplifying the situation here.

our kitchen has started to smell really bad since our new roommate has moved in

at first i thought it was the trash so i took that out and cleaned the can/frabreezed the little backdoor area next to the kitchen and the smell went away

but it's back this morning and there's only plastic trash in the can so it's not that and I think it's something my new roommate might be using to clean maybe his dishes? it's like a bad mix of chemical lemony cleaning product that just makes my stomach churn

most weekdays I don't even see him because I'm at work from 8 to 6 or 6:30 and in bed by 11:30 where he is a PhD student with more flexibility so he doesn't get up until like 11 and then is gone until about midnight which means i have to suffer through at least two more days of the house smelling like this until i can catch him on the weekend. I can barely stand to be in the kitchen right now.

i guess i could always text him about it but i feel like that might come off as rude and accusatory for pinning "the smell" on him but it literally just started and coincided exactly with him moving in.
