Um

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

I've had this problem as well. I'll give the "X is walking around" top-levels a little more slack for this event (I'm guilty of it myself to a point this time around), because people really can just pass by someone and be compelled to kiss them, but the problem does extend to most open posts in general or people like to just post their character's day-planner without any details of what they're actually doing at various locations to grab people's interest.

Additionally, I think the fact that so many pre-established players put top-levels of their own on arrival logs makes it harder for newbies. It's one thing if an established character is coming back from a mission or a canon update and is actually re-arriving, but otherwise it seems in bad taste. Tag the newbies, don't distract from them.

It is a hard game to get things done in if you don't already have CR, even if you're in a cast with someone, but I've found that being aggressive about using the CR meme or jumping on people on plurk has helped me a lot in recent months.

one of the games I used to play at had this policy: if you're not new this round or coming back from a canon update or something, YOU do the tagging out. it shouldn't be on the newbies to make YOU feel wanted.

seriously, if you're an established player/character, tag the fuck around. this is a real problem here.

Yeah. I'm a newbie and I just joined. I went all around the cr meme and tagged out, but I literally have had only two people tag me back so far. :/ It's pretty disappointing to say the least as it has really killed my "I'm excited for this game" boner.

it's definitely a problem. i wonder if it might help to maybe suggest this to the mod? she's usually pretty open to suggestions/concerns like that.

i do think one thing that can perhaps help new players is to try and push your intro tag/thread beyond just waking up in the temple. have them explore other areas and establish a point in which they've had details about teleios filled in for them. in my experience, that's managed to entice more characters to tag in and created more variety in the intro threads for my character(s). it also keeps me - and established players - from getting bored with getting/giving the same explanation 6 or 7 times about what's going on/happening.

it's definitely not a 100% cure-all to the general problem, but it might help alleviate things a bit and help newbies find their place.
