Okay

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

What would be the best format for writing a personality section for a character whose personality shifts over the course of canon? Most of the general qualities of their personality remain the same, but there is a very distinct shift in worldview and the goals that stem from it. Should I outline the general traits that are seen throughout or would it be best to start with a summation of their initial personality then work through how it changes and then touch on the parts that remain the same?

Hey there! Sorry this took so long. My app round just start and I've been busy at the meat grinder.

The answer to this one will probably vary from mod to mod, but I personally like to see this sort of thing in chronological order which is why I think history sections are redundant and a waste of time. If you start your app with how your character was presented at first and then walk us through their development to where they are now, then we will know outright that you understand how your character develops and changes based on their experiences which is the point of RP. That said though, don't waste too much time going into what they used to be like if they're drastically different now. Make note of old things, but put emphasis on the new stuff that is integral at your canon point. Spend more time establishing the key facets of their personality and use previous canon experiences to explain why they are that way. If there are general qualities that stay the same like you said, tell us why these things didn't change and why they're still important to your character even after their worldview shifted.

This is all made much easier when you just work your way through the character arc; remember not to write a history section! Tell us how your character has grown from their history and how they view their future. This will give us a really good idea of what you plan to do with your character and will make for a solid personality section.
