Okay

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

i'm all for more network less prose games but the dream premise isn't doing it for me and i'm kind of wary about activity checks that basically revolve around highly subjective things like 'have your character undergo some significant character development'

which is stuff that should ideally happen anyway, i just don't like it being the requirement for staying in the game when it's subjective especially if i'm reading this right and in theory two people could circlejerk a thread or two for three months in a corner and pass the ac if they can argue that shit happened and it kinda makes it a squatter's paradise in that sense.

tl;dr fuck yeah prose fuck yeah no network but that only does so damn much

according to the info threading on plot posts counts for ac

(Anonymous) 2014-04-02 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
what kind of ac would you prefer to see anon?

(Anonymous) 2014-04-02 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
something that's more quantifiable. i mean, i know other people are going but you can do two shortish threads and squat ANYWHERE but what's turning me off is the combination of

- requires "character development"
- ac is per shift which might be two months might be three months might be longer than 2-3 months the shift might span six months and you might have 2-3 acs in that period no one knows for sure

i prefer concrete posts or comment counts because then you know that when you get to x comments or y posts you've completed ac opposed to the sort of situation in which you don't explain it well enough and the mods deem it a strike or possible favoritism in that they have higher standards of what constitutes a character actively investigating plot events with one player than another.

(mods, btw, if you're reading this i'm not accusing you of being elitist wankers blah blah blah, and more power to you for setting up a game the way you want it. but i don't know either of you personally so i can't say well they're cool people so of fucking course they're going to be fair and balanced with how they handle what constitutes a completed thread, what constitutes opening up about deep character issues versus shallow casual issues, and so on.)

all you have to do to make AC is have one completed thread that represents something greater for your character than sitting around talking about nothing with a castmate or close cr. That's it. That, every 2-3 months or whenever AC goes up. Most people get that done in a day. I'm not sure how that's worse than the arbitrary comment count method that's popular right now?

personal preference? i'm not saying whoever is into this game is a horrible person or that they fucking suck do what i want i'm just saying that the reason why i'm not going fdkjlsgjkldsgjlds prose game network reserve reserve reserve is because the dream setting + the ac is a turnoff. and then someone asked me what i prefer and i'm saying this is what i prefer and this is why.

looks like they're paying attention

you can circle jerk around two shortish threads in a corner in any other game and call it passing AC though.

There's a better explanation of how DEs work here, anon:

http://somnambulistsmods.dreamwidth.org/3161.html#overview-activity-development

It doesn't have to be significant development, like them going through a life-changing event or whatever. It just has to be more meaningful that basic SoL filler crap like "ooo let's go get kittens"
