Okay

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Try to have a plan before you app into a game.

It doesn't have to be anything super detailed and plans change so it's not something you have to stick to. But I found I fared better when I was playing someone from a damn obscure canon as a LCW when I could go, "Okay. He'll have interesting CR with X for sure, he can do Y, he'll have opportunities with Z." You know, opposed to I really like playing this character and Game A looks cool and I don't know what I'll do but Game A looks cool and I like this character so okay!

Not to say that impulsively apping somewhere without a plan won't work out, but you know. Helps to have more ideas going in than if you're playing someone popular.

If you've got friends in a given game, abuse them. If not, be aggressive in making posts and shit. It helps if your character is egregious and outgoing. Obviously. But even stoic and taciturn individuals need to eat, they'll trip on occasion, NPC X will bump into them and cause them to hit Character Y, stuff like that. You don't have to contrive too much bullshit and you don't want to, but even the most isolated lone wolf will get hit by a bike and need to be helped up. Basically, if you don't have preexisting interest in your character you'll have to be good at making them sound interesting.

This also goes for memes, too. If you seem interesting? I'll tag you. If I see you tagging cross canon? I'll tag you, regardless of if I know your canon or not. If you're playing an OC and tag me and make it an interesting post? I'll go along with it. I'm not everyone, but...still, basically try really hard to be engaging and interesting, even if your character is a taciturn jackass from an obscure as hell canon, and people will try to at least meet you halfway.
