Okay

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Clever characters?

Not your supergeniuses, but your very bright professional types. I've been playing one recently who is meant to be a bit bumbling and nervous, but who should still come across as perceptive and analytical, and have got feedback along the lines of "he doesn't seem that smart".

In all honesty I suspect, assuming that your canon is vaguely popular and you stand a reasonable chance of getting a response, that your best route would be to wait a bit and then slip in a comment and hope to get something tailored to your character.

This is DWRP. Half the time, other players assume you're playing your character stupid if you don't infomod the fuck out of everything so they're never wrong. Coming to a well-reasoned and logical conclusion that happens to also be completely wrong because you're missing a key piece of information because fairies or whatever is the province of dumbos, apparently.

it's a tough thing to do in rp admittedly. are you having him take a lot of note of the other character's body language and stuff? you don't have to infomod or him to pick up on basic cues, or even just store the information away for later. with a bumbler that might be easier to show in introspection than action, but people don't mind that so much when it's actively focused on their character.

in general, really breaking down and showing a thought process helps loads

This. And if they haven't described their character's body language/clothing/whatever in the tag for him to analyze, I've found that writing about your character specifically looking for and taking note of those things will usually prompt a description in the next reply and give you all the material you need. Everyone loves writing about their own character, just give them an excuse.
