yeah, I don't mind hir/zie/xie honestly. It's the cutesy bunself pronouns that make me nope.jpg on taking someone at all seriously.

My main issue with zie and hir is that they are awkward to read or incorporate into speech smoothly.

I kind of like the Spivak pronouns, though. They're formed by dropping the "th" from the singular they/them/their, and actually seem to fit in with the language. They're easier to say.

Ah, yes, I do tolerate ey/em/eir myself.

Though my preference is still for singular they. It follows an already existing convention within the English language. It's a very natural construction that people tend to use unconsciously. (Just see that image going around tumblr where a person declares they will only use he or she to refer a person, but then uses singular they.) And I just don't get why otherwise progressive people seem to be so dead-set on following a rule laid down by some long dead 18th century grammarian. I guess to justify their desire to make sparkly, unpronounceable pronouns.

I admit that at my most snarky, I bust out the thou/thee/thy pronouns with those people. If they wanna be archaic and unreasonable about English... two can play at that game.

This is pretty much how I feel, too. To me, using singular "they" for a non-binary person or a person of unknown gender just makes sense sense. Everyone can pronounce, it's accessible, and it's not weird.

Yeah, singular they seems like it should be the best answer. But for me personally, I use "they" when I don't know the gender of a person -- so it seems impersonal.
