Okay

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

how above anon felt about burial at sea is actually how i felt about bioshock infinite (really enjoyed it in the heat of the moment, the moment i started to think about it it kind of fell apart), but burial at sea was a huge, annoying slog for me. "helping sally" as the driving force behind both parts 1 and 2 just didn't work for me at all because i didn't care about some random girl who was turned into a little sister, and every time elizabeth was like 'why am i doing this??' i was like 'YEAH WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?? I DON'T GIVE A FUCK, LET HER DIE' and toward the end when it was becoming increasingly clear that atlas was only going to fuck elizabeth over, my sense of 'BUT I DON'T CARE, WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?!??' increased exponentially.

i also felt like the mechanics for bioshock infinite were fine for a hack and whack game, but were really dissatisfying and spotty adopted into sneak mechanics. sometimes it was like a splicer could hear elizabeth's heartbeat three rooms over and sometimes i could run right up to one and thonk it without it ever noticing. it's also that playing elizabeth felt really... lacking after playing booker, who could just burst into the thick of the fray and lay down the hurt. it wouldn't make sense for them to play exactly the same way, of course, but elizabeth's strengths (not that there were many) didn't make up for her (many) weaknesses and the battle system was more irritating for me than anything else

also adding infinite's hamfisted morality and blahblah commentary on how THINGS ARE ALWAYS THE SAME CYCLICAL REPETITION BLAH BLAH BLAH to the background of what was already a fantastically atmospheric game (bioshock) was just.. totally unneccessary imo, and actually detracted from my enjoyment of the damn thng

i have a lot of fucking gripes about burial at sea, and not enough time to type them all out jesus but i'll just say that if this was the direction that they were going with the bioshock franchise maybe it's better after all that ken levine dissolved irrational

Yeah no shit. I was already really disappointed with Infinite and now that this has all transpired, I'm kinda glad that the Bioshock license is going to land with someone besides Levine. Maybe somebody will be able to write a coherent fucking story and make a game in three years or less now.

Not that he's not still a giant prick for getting Irrational blown up.

I was extremely confused by the whole 'Elizabeth solves the bonding problem!!' part of the game because

what

They already solved that problem in terms of the Alpha Big Daddies they just needed to downtune it so they don't become suicidal wrecks upon the death of their Little Sisters. And what the fuck if that's how they 'solved' it then how they did replicate the results if its through the ~lion's method~. How did the rest of the Big Daddies.

And Jesus if Elizabeth could ~see all the doors and possibilities~ like she kept saying than why did Burial at Sea happen at all. You think she would have seen that and went, 'Okay maybe hunting down this Comstock is a bad idea.' Or 'okay endangering this child is a prickish thing and will lead to my death so how about I lure him out via X and Y and anything but this because this is some Levine Plot Bullshit here.'

it seems fucking disrespectful that he would choose such a stupid and nonsensical answer for the bonding method for the big daddies and little sisters when bioshock 2 offered a solution that made more goddamn sense
