the problem isn't just the "old guard" though. the newbies are either cliquey as fuck or lazy as shit.

yeah it's probably true that some of the game's problems don't stem just entirely from the direction of its plot. more active players in general would really help things along--the train player plot can be brought up as a fine enough example, after all; we need more things like that...though tbh i'm getting kind of tired of this constant argument. trying to establish some kind of newbies vs oldies campaign is going to get us nowhere, because both sides seem to have an equal balance of flaws

it seems impractical to point the finger at all players that have been established for a year or more in game and call all of them cliquey--an anon on wg forever ago pointed out that cliques happen inevitably, if you're in a game longer and grow cr with more characters, and trying to tag out past your cr limit after awhile will only bog you down and turn you into a complete flake instead. the longer you've been around, the more insular you're going to get, because you don't have infinite time on your hands and need to ration your threads by necessity if you want to keep up meaningful cr. on the flip side, though, it's true there might very well be several groups or individual players that make no effort to tag out at all, or have let their characters become stale and directionless and can't form plans for changing that but refuse to drop because "oh but the cr!" with their tiny cliques--these are no fun for anybody to deal with stares pointedly at liz

on the new player side of things, the detrimental cliques mentioned above could be a legitimate problem, and might very well lend to a sense of discouragement if they're the first people you try to hit up in a game. however, i think i'll have to somewhat agree with this anon i'm responding to that a portion of the new people we've gotten in the last few months have been pretty...noncommittal themselves? it seems like there's been a slow increase in people that app in and promptly flake out, or simply don't tag out at all--and when the drop posts crop up, i wonder where half the usernames even come from. other people have said this multiple times, but it really does not pay to be lazy in this game, and if you wait for cr to come to you then you're going to have a very hard time. i don't think there's ever going to be any way to fully avoid this clause for ev, because it's a direct consequence of the fact that it's an older game with an aging playerbase--leaning on the crutch of having older players come to you is not going to bear much fruit. you're going to need to tag out; but don't just do it for the old players, reach out to your fellow new players as well! if the old guard is so inaccessible, establish a new guard of your own--there's plenty of people to go around. and i honestly don't think the majority of the game is actively unwelcome to new players at all, when everything else is said and done; we've already banded together to change the structure of our own event pacing so that new arrivals can have a better time of settling in. we're willing to work with you guys, but you've got to work with us and take the trouble to speak up, put yourself out there

if we can actually work together in this fashion, we have all the more opportunity to come up with more player plots that could impact the game, as well as stir up suggestions and actions for the game plot as a whole. is it feasible? i have the good faith to think it might be, though i know this is much easier said than done. player-related activity issues are much more difficult to fix, but awareness might help

while cliques are inevitable, most of the ev cliques are weighing the game down. it's not the kind that naturally tag their existing cr, it's the kind that actively blocks meaningful new player involvement. that's why so many new players look flakey.

Nothing is going to shift the crud of the older player cliques. Old players crapped all over anon complaints from new players, blamed the pace of the game, the pace changed, nothing else changed. New players are learning the hard way they they're not welcomed.

it's funny how a few months ago the exitvoid thread treated newbies like they were some kind of plague. and now core players can't ignore how stagnated and boring the game is so people are acknowledging how hard it is for new players in hopes that they stay. too little too late.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-25 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
When did the pace change? I'm not seeing it. It's the same event, event, event, event, event, event pace it's always been. As soon as the characters got back from the Rift event, they had to deal with digging the campus out of the jungle that formed. Immediately after that, the train crashes.

So yeah, what change of pace?

More like the mods said they were taking our criticisms but flaked out on actual change. They lied. AYRT hasn't been paying attention or has their nose up mod ass.

2 events in a row that were easily opt-outable (the carnival and the rift tears that your character doesn't even have to see or care about), which covered a month, the rift, and then the jungle which is easily ignored if your character just stays on campus so they don't get attacked by snakes. Next week is all player plots which you can also ignore if so desired.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-25 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Not looking forward to the slew of player plots

(Anonymous) 2014-02-25 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, the option of sticking with the same pace there's always been or falling behind while you ignore everything. Great choice.

The fucking events were supposed to be slowed down. They weren't. Telling us to ignore events (especially ignoring a Rift event, are you fucking high?) was not the solution we asked for.

the mods really screwed us with their inept "solution"

Name names.

No one ever fucking names names of these supposed cliques except Liz and the Pac Rim cast who are actually new for Gamma. Which old players are causing the problem?

Re: dda

nobody ever names names on rpanons unless they had a wanker meltdown like liz

Yes they do, but to avoid chafing your ass further I will ask WG the same question.

I would argue that the First Doctor and Rory tag out a lot but I agree on the rest.

In return nominate AOT cast (minus Erwin) for clique-y.

When they do tag it's usually just in their cliques
