Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

I'm fine with it. I think it's better for triggery plots to be played out in a musebox. Less hassle all around. Is there an OOC com where you could link to it (with trigger warnings) if you feel it's important for plot reasons or character development?

The only thing holding me back from opening a game right now is that I feel like both the idea and my modding skills are better for a forum environment (even though I don't forum RP anymore)

I know nothing about DW layout nonsense and profile coding or where you advertise around here. (This post is great but is really nothing near the size of RPG-D over in forumland)

Generally, Sizoku views everyone as an inferior intellectually (I think the only exception to this was Scorpius), so she will act that way: haughty, know-it-all, exasperated at the constant stupidity of others. When she gets caught acting above herself - and she will because she really only has book-smarts and very little actual world experience - she tends to react flippantly and attempts to cover to still make herself look good. Now, when she wants something from someone she can exercise a little more patience, making suggestions and asking questions to gently steer conversation toward getting what she wants.

There are basically three main motivations for why Sikozu does anything: curiosity, survival and her loyalty to the Kalish. For big decisions it's the latter two, which often go hand in hand (she needs to survive in order to carry out her part in the Kalish revolution), but for everyday sorts of things it's curiosity. She loves to learn, does so extremely quickly and then will want to show that new knowledge off. It's a great tool if you're going to be playing her in a dressing room or panfandom type of game to balance the fact that she'll think she's surrounded by morons.

if you don't post your own stuff, you're not always available so people will flock to the posts that you do make, which makes you look desirable and makes more people flock to your posts. profit.

if you're uncomfortable contacting strangers then why the fuck are you in a social hobby? put on your big girl panties and get over it.

any kind of plot can be handled badly, it's not exclusive to rape plots.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-02 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not really that different. You don't need fancy code, you just need something more readable than huge blocks of unformatted text. Dreamwidth's default layouts are fine for most games, especially if you turn off some of the useless sidebar modules.

Profile coding is something people do for their own personal lists of characters they play, as a way to show off their design skills. It's not necessary at all. Believe me, a game with a solid premise and organization and clear writing will stand out even if the layout is ugly. You can usually find someone willing to code it up nicely for you, too.

I've had this muse for years and I've never seen another Shredder. He is an alien unicorn.

But hey, if I see you around I'll be sure to throw him at you.

Is anyone open for drawn icon commissions at the moment?

I just finished NOS4A2, anyone else out there? Locke & Key seems the most likely place to find other players, but it would be pretty cool to see Judas Coyne or something too.

Need icons / caps from Beyond Two Souls of kid!Jodie, anyone know where to find some?

Much obliged!

(Anonymous) 2014-01-02 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's better to cap the number of players rather than the number of characters. 50 players is still far too many to suit some modding/plotting/gameplay styles, and the domination of large games in DWRP is part of the reason why most games are so similar. If people are able to maintain real activity (not just a few network posts boomeranged with a friend two hours before AC is due) with 2, 4 or more characters, I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed to play them.

Set cast caps are kind of tricky because they limit some canons severely and barely affect others at all. But I do think mods should have the balls to say "hey, we're getting too many characters from one canon, and it's affecting the game balance." The point of rping in a game is to interact with the game as a whole, not just your own cast.

BEST?

Re: elodie | long live the queen

elodie can differ wildly based on what you have taught her, obviously, but the most important thing I can think of is her inner core of innocent naivety.

Remember how much you have to teach her to keep from just going with her first thoughts, ie. putting sick people together making them die faster, the "oh i thought i heard one time to push the arrow through your body if you get hit" stuff, the "oh, chocolates from a stranger omnomnom!"

Similarly, remember how quickly she tends to jump to conclusions and stick to them until she learns otherwise.

If you know what skills you are using for her route I can give more specific advice, because obviously a Faith spec Elodie is a very different person than an Intrigue spec one (and doing both together is both really interesting and fairly unique)

Re: ORIGINAL GAME SUGGESTIONS

(Anonymous) 2014-01-02 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
honestly it's the principle of the thing. i get so exhausted when i think about having to write an app, because it's more a measure of how well you can write an essay and not how well you can write prose or how well you can characterize or how well you play with others. i would like to see apps focus more on tags and samples personally.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-02 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I can count on one hand the number of players I've seen who wrote an app that was good enough to get accepted and then ended up really sucking at the character. And like in your case, it didn't come to light until they'd been in the game for a few months, so requiring test drive threads would've been useless.

I've always seen the term rape plot strictly referring to characters being raped in game.

Tbh characters constantly bringing up their backstory, rape or otherwise, is it's own problem.

Re: ORIGINAL GAME SUGGESTIONS

(Anonymous) 2014-01-02 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
i do not understand why so many people act like apps are this huge endeavor. i have never spent more than three hours on an app and that was for a game where i had to write out a history. they usually take me an hour, two hours at most.

i've apped to more than two dozen games and never even been asked for revisions. apps aren't hard to write if you know your character.
