Hey, Sonic players, how much success have you had playing with people outside the canon? I'd like to pick up a character but I'm worried no one will want to tag them. :c

Personally, you mean?

My game doesn't have much in the way of a Sonic cast (we've had a few filter in here and there, but the only one that's reasonably stuck is human Shadow), so I've been pretty much reliant on other canons for CR. It's not too bad!

You won't get as many tags as you would from playing a popular character from a big fandom everyone seems to enjoy. It's the same for anyone aiming to play a "lone canon warrior," I think, especially when they're from a fandom that's under-represented in the RP community. You'll probably get a decent amount of tags, though, especially if you tag around a bit yourself! Granted, it will vary from game to game, but I don't think you'd get ignored in any.

Try not to feel too self-conscious about your character of choice, though. It'll feel more difficult to tag if you do.

I'm in Luceti and while I don't get as many tags as some, I get plenty as long as I tag around. But I play Eggman which is a contributing factor to some of his taglessness, because he's usually locked away in his lab or freaking people out when he's actually outside. Ha ha.

But that said, he does get plenty of tags. There's a Sonic in Luceti more recently, but apart from that he's on his own canon-wise and gets along fine. Don't be shy about joining an RP! Good RPers will tag your character if they seem interesting, even if they're not from your canon. I love to tag everyone and I get a lot of people who will tag Eggman despite not being from his canon.

And the last thing? You might find there's plenty of Sonic fans who want to tag your character even though they play a character from another canon. Just go for it! :)
