So. Character ages.

Because there is literally fuck all to talk about with this canon right now. Even with the regular 'spoilers'.

Re: TEEN WOLF

Pretty sure Stiles and Allison are both 17. There was some tumblr meta going around at the teen wolf 'happy birthday stiles' tweet that sounded pretty legit about Stiles potentially being held back a year, due to his attention problems.

Lydia, I'm fairly certain is also 17 because of her birthday party toward the end of last season- then again, that should have been early Spring if the 'worm moon' that Peter mentioned had any merit. So it's possible that she's only 16 and skipped a year, due to being... well, Lydia. which would make Jackson/Lydia be when she was 15

Everyone else in their year, I'd say is 16: Isaac, Boyd, Jackson, Danny, and Erica. Most likely all turning 17 next season.

idk about Derek, but I'm going to throw a ballpark out there and say 22-23. Even though Jeff is hinting that he's older than he looks, I'll be sort of disappointed if he's over 25, as that would just make him hanging around the high school looking for victims all the creepier.

Re: TEEN WOLF

(Anonymous) 2013-04-10 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I admit, I kind of like that headcanon about Stiles being held back for whatever reason. It even gave Scott a little mention.

On the Derek point. If he was over 25 the hanging around the High school point would be one of the least creepiest things given two of his scenes with Erica.

Someone did question it a little while back, whether Jeff meant he was older than people thought because they thought he was early 20s. Or whether he said that based on his supposed age in the pilot, which was 19.

Re: TEEN WOLF

(Anonymous) 2013-04-10 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I did too! I hope it becomes canon, tbh.

Oh gosh, and that would be awful too. If he was 26, he'd be a full ten years older than her, and seducing her to become a werewolf, just... uck.

I really hope they just mean him being older than 19. Even then, it's still skeevy to me. Buuut if he'll be having a relationship with an english teacher? I mean, what's an acceptable age to be seducing a 16 year old and banging her teacher? :\

Re: TEEN WOLF

(Anonymous) 2013-04-10 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Has it even been confirmed that he's getting a love interest?

It started off that he was getting one, Haley something who I believe is playing Lydia's sister, and then Jeff was sort of denying it.

I get a little confused on the ages myself, tbh. And the dates. Stiles said the fire happened 10 years ago but Derek said 7. And Kate Argent seemed a bit older then 22-23, which makes me wonder what she was doing hooking up with Derek if he was like, 16-17 at the time of the fire.

And yes, Derek's scenes with Erica have a sliding scale creep factor depending on his age, but Peter sort of steals the creep cake and just smears it all over himself in terms of his interactions with Lydia.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one side-eying Lydia/Jackson in terms of how old they are/were

Re: TEEN WOLF

(Anonymous) 2013-04-10 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Ignore what Stiles said. A lot of people get that wrong.

Stiles mentioned the fire happening 10 years ago in the 'pilot' half of the first episode. That was filmed before the series was actually picked up. It was corrected later on in the series, and in Jeff's commentary of the first episode.

The fire happened 6 years ago.

As for Kate. Pretty obvious what she has doing hooking up with a teenager, manipulating him via sex for information on his family.
Which Derek sort of mimics with Erica, and to an extent the police officer/

Then am I the only one that gets actually creeped out by the creepy aspects of the show? Like adults hitting on teenagers and the torturing/bullying that goes on.

I'm actually pleased with their take on the sexualities of the characters as in not giving much of a shit and having people running around going "I'M NOT GAY!" or anything, nor are they shoving the legitimate homosexual scenes down anyone's throat. It's fluid and just kind of the way it is, which is much like life and I like that.

But there are still some creepy ass aspects of this show that seem to be glossed over in favor of the character being 'sassy' or w/e. No.

Re: TEEN WOLF

(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Not at all. It's not the worst thing that's ever been filmed, and it's not even irredeemable on the sliding scale of morality, it's just... creepy. Kate/Derek, Derek/Erica, Peter/Lydia, and even Jackson/Lydia (if she was 14/15 when they were sexually active) sort of bothers me.

If the fire was 6 years ago though, then I think we can definitely peg Derek for 22/23, which is... a small relief.

But yeah, just another reason I sideeye Sterek shipping a lot. That's a rather skeevy age difference- tons of people were uncomfortable with Derek/Erica, why are they totally okay with Derek/Stiles?

da

(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
I have to admit that the age difference thing doesn't actually bother me.

But, i'm from the UK. Legal age is 16 BUT so long as you're 'mature enough' the NHS will provide free protection and keep quiet about people underage having sex.

That said. Anyone ever notice that a pairing in like Twilight with a huge age gap is accepted but anything above a couple of years is creepy?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I have constantly pointed out the pedo factor between vampires and their actual TEENAGE paramours. Edward/Bella, Stefan-Damon/Elena. Like, I know they can't really hang out with humans their own age, but you'd think that they might have an appreciation for older women as well as teenyboppers since they've actually matured and lived for a few lifetimes. What age they were at when they were turned doesn't really matter. Even with that, 24-17 was eww at the beginning of TVD.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yet the majority of people accept it as though it doesn't matter.

Same applies here in a sense. The age differences are meant to be creepy. Kate/Derek, played to make Kate creepy. Derek/Erica, also played to show that he can be creepy and to show exactly how desperate Erica is for a cure.
If the majority of fans don't care though? It's going to carry on.

Given that the loudest fans are the Sterek fandom, it's definitely going to carry on.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
I guess I'm a minority in that I'm not a Sterek shipper, but I'm not really an anyone shipper.

I get what they were going for with Kate/Derek and Erica/Derek, but it kind of makes me dislike Derek as a character that he was so desperate for a pack that he went and picked up what were basically children with severe image and social issues and 'bettered' them to make himself stronger. I haven't really seen anything from Derek that leads me to believe he actually gives a shit about any of them, aside from Scott who isn't even officially in his pack. The whole 'I have someone else in mind for you' remark to Erica really grated on my nerves because it had that tone of 'I'm the lord of the manor and you will marry/fuck/please whoever I tell you to' and I can sort of picture her being like "I didn't sign up for this shit."

If you're bothered by the torturing/bullying that went on during the first two seasons, you're probably not going to want to watch season 3. It's a series that keeps getting darker, what else do you expect from a series about werewolves, killer creatures, and hunters?

As for the creepy thing.
The Kate/Derek thing creeps a number of people out. It's comfirmed in the show that she used him for sex, that she messed with his feelings, killed his family and then came back to torment him further.

It doesn't seem to bother people as much with Derek/Erica because it's one scene with seduction and then the next time this comes up, she literally jumps him. And then that's it. It's not brought up again, neither character seems disturbed by it. If anything Erica seems a little put out about being told to never do it again.

I think someone actually wrote meta at some point about Derek and his mental state. Bringing up the idea that after the fire, he might not have fully matured past his teenage years from a mental stand point.
Take that as you will though.

Re: TEEN WOLF

(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
It's not like I'm bothered personally by it. More like I'm wondering why everyone just seems okay with it. I love that it's getting darker and I'm totally fine with that, but, for example, TWD has had scenes with characters being tortured and there was legitimate IC reactions to that. I think I'd be less bothered by it if it was something that was addressed instead of seemingly being glossed over.

Kate showing Allison that she was torturing Derek was something that should have had an effect on Allison, as well as Derek. Erica and Boyd watching Stiles get his ass handed to him by a geriatric should have had some kind of response on either of the character's ends, but it's just been glossed over. I like the show, I enjoy the character interactions, but I'd like to see some of the legitimate fallout that should be happening because of character actions.

Re: TEEN WOLF

(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
It did have an effect on Allison though. The whole torture thing is shown via her flashbacks and she's clearly disturbed by it, heck she bursts into tears and gets hysterical after being pulled over.

Erica and Boyd didn't really have a chance to have a reaction. They avoided watching while it happened and the next time they're seen, they're running again.
Neither character was given the screen-time because they had to wrap up the Jackson plot. Likewise Scott's reaction to Stiles' condition was also cut due to time, so all you get is Scott's relief while reading a text message.

Re: TEEN WOLF

(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Considering Erica is going to be a no-show for S3, I'm kind of disappointed we won't get to see more of her reactions and possibly Boyd's about their own time being hooked up to a torture device. From what I've seen, Isaac seems to be the only one with any kind of reaction to the crap that he's gone through, and he seems to be using his new abilities to help him cope with it, which is cool. I get that time's a factor and they can't really go into huge explicit detail about everything, but if I had to point out something to have a complaint about regarding the show, it would be how mercurial everyone's moods seem to be. The characters suffer from the worst case of bipolar ever.

Re: TEEN WOLF

(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
What you have to keep in mind is that originally Isaac, Erica and Boyd weren't signed up to be re-occuring characters. Then it dropped to Erica and Boyd.
Obviously now it's a question as to whether Boyd is going to join Isaac as a re-occurring character or not.

Something that generally gets pointed out is that the story is meant to revolve around Scott. So he's the main focus, any time left over for other reactions essentially goes down in order of how important they are with current events.
Erica and Boyd were chained up. Stiles was literally the only one to know they were there. And he doesn't arrive in the finale until the final few moments.

Regardless though. They're going to have longer to flesh out the characters for season 3 and apparently the main cast isn't spending much time together for the first half. Dylan mentioned that Stiles spends most of his time with either Lydia or with his Dad.

And thank you for clarifying the pilot vs legit show timeline. I'm not really active in the fandom aspect of it and sort of just pick up from the show itself. Anything outside of that is a hit and miss as to whether I hear about it. Usually a miss.

I only know about the pilot vs full show point because I listened to the actor's commentary. They mention that the pilot cuts off after Scott jumps out of the window.

I was under the impression that lydia is 16/was 15 until season 2. I was pretty sure they were all sophomores, which would be reasonable because a good deal of kids are, like... 14 in 8th grade, 14/15 in 9th grade, and 15/16 in 10th. (Though really this is weird I have never heard of a high school that has a sophmore captain/co captains of a varsity sport, though in the first episode, Lydia does say they've had a "winning lacrosse team" for three years while praising Jackson, which makes me wonder about a lot of timeline and continuity stuff in this show...)

Also why would Allison have had her little freak out moment about turning 17 if all the other kids in her year were turning 17 too? I don't think she would have. And if Stiles is 17, too, it leads me to believe that, yeah, they were both held back.

I really want to know where the birthdays on the wiki came from, because a lot of them seem off year-wise.

Re: TEEN WOLF

(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
The wiki birthdays came from 'The Hunt'.

Stiles' one was confirmed so, you would assume that the others would be correct.

Season 3 tag line.

"This might hurt."

Which really seems underwhelming, to me at least, given all the hype for the season.

Season 3 promo tonight.

I'm actually glad that my timezone makes watching the movie awards kind of impossible. I get to avoid the explosion of feels on Tumblr.
With a tag line like, "This might hurt" I wouldn't be surprised if it involves the main characters getting injured in various ways.

Which Tumblr fans will latch onto with their 'my poor bb' posts...
