[D] Reading an actual book

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Lone Canon Warriors in need of loving home

(Anonymous) 2012-12-26 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm looking for somewhere small-ish that handles Lone Canon Warriors well. I've got a few that I'd like to play somewhere and I honestly haven't had much luck so far. Only one of them has powers (that I would prefer not be nerfed), and the others just have stuff. They don't absolutely HAVE to keep their stuff, though, and a couple of them would actually be perfectly fine without it.

The only request I have is no sex games or ones where you have to make them an AU that fits in the world. Everything else is a go.

How small is "small" for you?

Probably about less than 70 characters or so.

[community profile] outer_divide is pretty small, and has quite a few LCWs who get along pretty well. Characters keep their powers and most of their stuff (it might be all of their stuff, I'm just not sure on things like mechas).

No mechas; most of what they have are weapons/armor/food/chess sets/etc. I've considered Outer Divide in the past for other characters before, so I think I'll take a second look at it. Thanks for the suggestion!

[community profile] soul_campaign might be good for the characters who can bear to be power nerfed/lose their stuff. The setting works really well for Lone Canon Warriors, because the whole partnership system kind of forces one to get CR and it usually ends up being with characters from other canons.

If you're alright with a homestuck-based game, [community profile] jarjammed is incredibly friendly to lone canon warriors, and we've got a ton of them.

If you're cool with a more violent sort of premise, [community profile] heroesparadise welcomes LCWs with open arms-both my characters there are such, and I've never had a problem. There is a power nerf that's sometimes removed for events, but you can get a degree of power back based on the weapon you choose for your character. And it's under 50 characters big right now.

Problematic players aside, I've found that [community profile] lastvoyages is astonishingly good for LCWs. When I played there, I played both Lone Canon Warriors and people in part of a big cast, and I liked it better for LCWs. You do get to keep powers and depending on the stuff, it can be kept (I'd advise talking to a mod/posting in the potential app thread though about the stuff.) Granted, it IS a bit on the large side compared to the other games mentioned, but it might work.

[community profile] cape_kore has a lot of lone canon warriors and a lot of fandoms with only two characters, as well. It's relatively small and slow-paced and powers are only nerfed when characters attempt to leave the setting/approach the edges. When it comes to technology, however, most items are removed from characters prior to their arrival.

Have you looked at [community profile] revenance_rpg? It's a smaller, slower-paced backtag-friendly game that has quite a few lone canon warriors that are doing pretty well. It's based on Kingdom Hearts 3D, taking place in the dream world in the game, but you don't need to be familiar with the canon in order to play.

Powers are only nerfed if characters are ridiculously overpowered (think DBZ or Nippon Ichi) and they arrive with the items they're carrying on their person.
