[D] Reading an actual book

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

wow this is

weird, to say the least.

i agree with what the other anons are saying this is...not logical at all. What kind of guy would honestly be okay with sexing up other dudes while the entire human race is about to die out.

i mean i really don't see why it would be only women effected either...i know this is rp and this is the science in my talking but if anyone sex was to be effected it would be the males.

sorry to burst your butt sex dream there anon

Civilization has stabilized after the apocalypse struck enough where people can live somewhat normal lives and to keep population numbers up, men are brought in.

I'm curious about why you think it would be more likely to affect men? I'll admit either way, it's a pretty far-fetched plot and the premise was taken from a goofy horror comedy, but I'm not seeing how it's any less realistic this way than the other.

I'm not the anon you were talking to, but I hope I can help anyway. The reason it would affect men (if it were to only affect one sex and not both) is because women have two X chromosomes, while men have one X chromosome and one Y. For instance, hemophilia is much more common in men than women irl, because it's a recessive gene carried on an X chromosome, so women need two genes for it while a man only needs one. Some conditions are carried on the Y chromosome, which means that women can't get them but men can, since women don't have a Y chromosome. This is also why women can be carriers for a disorder without actually manifesting symptoms of it themselves, because they have one recessive gene for it but not the two needed to manifest the condition.

For a zombie virus it would make more sense for both sexes to be affected, and I can't think of any good reason either sex would automatically be immune. But if either gender was going to be more resilient to a disease, it would be women. Women also have stronger immune systems than men in general, due to the necessity of protecting the fetus from getting sick during pregnancy.

Er, that is, women need the recessive gene for a condition on both X chromosomes, so if one chromosome is recessive for the condition but the other is dominant against the condition, then the dominant one cancels the recessive one out and the woman is a carrier but doesn't have the condition herself. Whereas a man who has a recessive gene for a condition on his X chromosome doesn't have another X chromosome to cancel it out, so the condition manifests in him.
