wow its early and i'm sure i'm missing something obvious, but why are all the titles and handles for homestuck characters different from canon?

The titles are different essentially because there can only be one character with any given class and aspect, and there are a fuckton of characters – it wouldn't be fair to reserve canon titles for canon characters, especially when a lot of them overlap within canon anyway across different sessions. Since this isn't the same session as the ones they play in canon, the Homestuck characters aren't destined for the same roles within it – plus, if it helps any, all Homestuck characters at JJ all have to be AUed a little bit so that Sburb/Sgrub/whatever doesn't factor into their backstory in any way, so it's not like they already had different titles in another session of Sburb and then came into this one and got new ones.

As for handles... I think the handles are all the same except for some AU characters and Aradia? afaik Aradia's is a joke on how because of the whole thing as mentioned where they all have to be AUed, their version of Alternia isn't part of a Sburb apocalypse destiny loop. At least I assume that's what the reasoning is!

no, thank you for answering! I guess mostly I think that de-sgrubifying histories for the homestuck characters would take away a lot of the character relationships/backstory that is interesting to me, if that makes sense? I don't so much mind the differences in titles and such, but that part where they'd pretty much have to be AU'd and lose a lot of the things I love about them weirds me out a little, but I'm glad other people enjoy it.

ohhh. yeah, it does mean some of the established CR is different – pre-game stuff not so much in the majority of cases just because people are encouraged to find alternate non-Sburb reasons for the same things to happen, not to approach it as like "how would things logically be different without the influence of Sburb". it's not so much a case of what people prefer/enjoy as just a necessary evil, though, since it would kind of break the plot if we had a bunch of characters coming in who already knew how the game worked.
