[M] Here's an idea
Rundown:
rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.
Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter
Rules:
Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-15 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)re: canon elements, i don't completely understand the q, basically your character is the same as they were, but in a different world. powers may be weakened or disappear altogether depending on the game, and they may or may not be granted the power of invincibility. it varies from game to game!
Re: da
(Anonymous) 2012-09-15 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)i think it's the connections to other characters from the same book/movie/etc that's giving me trouble. on the one hand it's like my character stands alone in an alternate universe, but then again there's still people looking for castmates and those sort of connections. how is that being handled usually?
let's take the example of, idk, harry potter. i have a harry and join a game. does he automatically know the hermione there or is that just something players like to plot together for familiarity reasons? bc at the same time it's possible that younger versions of his parents or something can drop in. what then?
Re: da
(Anonymous) 2012-09-15 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)but if the marauder-era james and lily drop in, he'd probably recognize them from pictures and such, but they wouldn't know who he was because they hadn't had him yet.
Re: da
(Anonymous) 2012-09-15 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)is there a rule of thumb on how to handle that type of encounter? like with supposedly dead characters, for example. or do you just quietly ignore the possibility in this side of rp? (i realize this must be a really stupid question, but i don't want to step on any toes either)

(Anonymous) 2012-09-18 11:57 am (UTC)(link)Like, if someone is playing Sirius from after he died, Harry going OMG YOU DIED would be fine. If someone is playing Sirius from like... the end of The Prisoner of Azkaban, or really early on in The Order of the Phoenix, they might not want Sirius finding out about his future death, or finding out about it yet. So it's good to ask!
