I've been tossing around the idea of playing Sephiroth for a while now, I used to back in my private RP days and had a lot of fun with him.

But I'm curious what the general consensus is on only accepting FFVII (and possibly AC) as canon is. I understand there used to be a lot of divide on this, from what I had seen? I was pretty active in the fandom back when there was just the one game, but haven't been since, and I don't much care for the newer games (not a personal attack on anyone who does, just not my cup of tea)

Am I going to get absolutely strung up everywhere I go if I want to keep things to original canon? I'd, obviously, have no issue with other people being from the Compilation canon.

or just the doctor in general... i'm asking this as someone who isn't the fondest of the direction the show's going in but still finds matt smith's doctor fascinating enough to have a lot of untapped potential in terms of development.

GENERAL: Special Snowflakes

So I want to design an OC who is a special snowflake. The thing is I want them to be obnoxious, I want other characters to be annoyed by them and everything they do, I want them to be a tryhard, and I want their snowflakeyness to be a character trait, rather than being somebody as a player who wants a spotlight all the time doesn't know how to write a proper character.

General advice? How do I make it so that they're an annoying character without being a nuisance to other players? What can I do to make it clear that if you hate them a little (or a lot), I'm doing my job right?

Any and all tips and thoughts would be appreciated!

X-Men - Rogue

Advice, or help...

I grew up with the Fox Kids X-Men show and never got into the comics as I couldn't afford them. Now, I can. I would like to play Rogue from the comics, but where would I even start? I know there are different lines and all that, but where would be a good point to jump in at?

Any help as to where I should start with the comics would be awesome. Even if you just point out which ones I should buy to start off. It's either that or RP from the Fox show (as I know the movies are generally frowned upon).

Which route would be the best to pick her up from, considering she's not one of the main girls? How can I balance her insecurity and shyness with the really nice advice she can give once in a while? Any opther useful tips?

This canon's RPers get a lot of hate but not a lot of reasons for the hate/concrit for fixing problems. So, any tips for playing this guy well? Any traps to avoid?

General - CROSS DRESSERS

I'm looking to play a character that is female sexed and female gendered and can be very feminine in her own ways BUT she still very expertly presents herself as male so that she can get into a profession she'd otherwise be barred from. Think Mulan or Naoto Shirogane.

My problem is that I don't know how to go about conveying this naturally in RP, since she's not from a series that's well known in DWRP. I'm not sure if it's okay to use male pronouns to refer to her since she's not actually male, but hassling every single person in my game to explain that only really, really, really sharp characters should be able to realize that she's not actually a guy will get out of hand fast.

She does have a masculine alias that she'll use exclusively around others but I'm not sure that would be enough.

Marvel/X-Men - Sam Guthrie/Cannonball

So, I was suggested to try my hand at this guy by a friend, and I wanted to know what some good stories were to get a feel for him? I'm not a Marvelite really, so I don't even know where to start. Based on the wiki entry, I like him, but I'm just totally lost.

Okay, so my local library has started carrying those comic collection books that house a certain series in them. They've got a ton of them set in the Amazing Spider-Man universe and I've gotten interested enough in that I want to play Eddie Brock from this timeline, during his time as Venom. I'm thinking of a canon point that's between after his first set of encounters with the webslinger and before the Maximum Carnage events. The things I need to know are:

1) What issues you would recommend me read to better get his personality down.

2) Some traps RPers from the Marvel universe may fall into.

3) General character advice and things I need to keep in mind.

I know my characterization of him won't be outright perfect, but I want to be as faithful to the canon as I possibly can.
