Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Concerns?

Sims-based game?

(Anonymous) 2012-09-10 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
In which Malcolm Landgraab is being sadistic and kicking the residents of (insert town here) out of their homes, and people are being pulled in from different universes to try to earn enough money to buy up the neighborhood and kick him out. Everyone is given a little green plumbbob that floats above their heads at all times and changes color with their moods.

Aside from your run-of-the-mill monthly events, there would also be opt-in "challenges" that players could take based on sadistic actions by players in the original games. (Such as walling people in, alien abductions, planting hedge mazes all around their house, etc.)

...wait alien abductions? are they sims 2 alien abductions?

Don't think I'd allow pregnancies in-game since I haven't seen them RPed well, buuuut other than that, they are. In the "take some poor sap out from peacefully stargazing, disorient them terribly, and drop them back" sense.

Although in lieu of alien babies, perhaps they can be dropped in a random place in the neighborhood, instead of back at their homes?

I'm already loving this. So much.

Didn't their personalities sometimes randomly change, when they were abducted? Sloppy sims becoming neat, and so forth?

Hmmm, that's right, anon! Maybe that could be worked in as well.

Another idea I had to reconcile Sim game mechanics with nonpermanent RP death was to make the dead Sim a ghost. Either they would be restored by the end of the month, or one of their friends could call Death on their phone and try to persuade him to resurrect them. But if a character dies over a certain number of times, they'll just have to stick to playing as a ghost forever (or until someone is willing to go through the stupidly difficult process of getting ambrosia for them)

If I decide to include Traits in the character apps, I might keep the detail of Loser/Unlucky Sims not being able to die by normal means.

The Traits wouldn't decide much since that would be too railroading, but perhaps at the end of each month I can give characters who apply for one bonuses based on one of their traits?

I love this so much, oh my God. I was actually thinking of trying to make a Sims-based game myself a while back.

Do you think it would be too much hassle to do a rewards system based on lifetime happiness points? Like, maybe at the start of the month players select 1-4 goals for their characters and can save up for stuff?

This would be a good idea!

Rewards that could be put in:

-The body reshaper from TS3 that makes you fatter/thinner/more muscular/etc. based on the settings you put in. (Can be used once a month; if it fails just makes characters obese)

-The aphrodisiac hot tub (if it fails, makes characters repulsed by each other while they're in it. Also can be used as many times as the players want, but becomes a regular hot tub 1-3 months after it's earned)

-Ambrosia (in lieu of the life elixir, since aging isn't as much of an issue). Always brings a ghost character back to life, but kills someone who is still alive.

-Money Tree (if it fails, produces counterfeit money)

-Death Flower (never fails but only works once. If a character carries it on their person and suffers something that should kill them, they'll be spared from death.)

-Cow Plant (Has to be fed according to a regular schedule. If not, it'll eat the neighbors or possibly even its owner)

I'd just leave it up to the players whether or not they want the rewards to fail.

One thing I neglected to put out:

Characters would lose whatever powers they had, along with any weapons/familiars/whatever, when they enter the game. In place, they can become vampires/ghosts/werewolves/plantpeople. Not sure about witches/warlocks.
