[M] I am in misery

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Concerns?

Hey! This is the designated catch-all entry. This is not an invitation to spam to your heart's content. The same rules apply.

Someone called Homestuck, "the Ulysses of the internet" because it's complicated and hard to understand but good. Yeah... are we reading the same comic, because I found it so dull, I couldn't make it past the first few pages.

Complicated and hard to understand, but considered rewarding because it's difficult to get through, actually.

Seriously, it's a good video, try watching it. I'm not even a Homestuck fan, I just like this channel's stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLK7RI_HW-E

It honestly gets less dull if you trek through the first few acts but most people don't give enough shits about HS to.

Yes, we are. The beginning of the comic (Acts 1 + 2, I'd say) were a lot less focused on plot than on exploration and jokes. Readers were still directly submitting some of the commands, and there were a lot of programming and adventure game meta jokes. Once the story started progressing, and the POV began to switch to other characters, it was like the camera zooming out of John's room and to an increasingly global view.

By now, there have been pages following dozens of different characters, between at least four different universes, at least eight different planets, with flashbacks and flashforwards covering hundreds of thousands of years. The focus is still on the kid in his bedroom and his friends, but there's a lot more going on and we know it.

Excuse you, I'm a mid-20s who has no clue about Ulysses or Joyce of English literature.

not all of us are english lit majors anon. some of us like to do concrete sciency things, with math and objective answers. I may not know jack shit about English literature, but I do know all the ins and outs of a brain. people aren't teenagers, because they studied a different field.

Then don't make comparisons you don't understand, jackass.

The fact that I don't know anything about String Theory doesn't suddenly make Homestuck the String Theory of the internet just because String Theory is confusing.

Calm the fuck down. I didn't make the comparison, I was just quoting the person who said it. The youtube link is in one of the comments.
