anons, I'm going to be threading smut with someone for the first time really soon

simultaneously excited and nervous beyond belief that I might mess up horribly somehow

Yeah, looking back on everyone's replies and my own comment now, I guess it's a bit silly. The person I'll be threading with has done loads of smut already, too, so I really don't want to disappoint them or anything either...

But you're all right, it's just for fun in the end, and I should engage it as such. Thank you for the advice too, anon c:

Just remember to play your CHARACTER, not a random porn actor with your character's name. How would they feel about sex, what would they like or dislike, are they inhibited or unhibited, do they laugh, how much do they trust the other character...all that kind of stuff. You don't need to fill out a survey like homework, but be thinking about those kinds of things, that it's this PERSON having sex and reacting, the same person you always play.

That's what makes smut threads fun and interesting and real; talking about what your character is feeling (or saying! sex doesn't have to be nothing but wordless groans) keeps it from degenerating into robotic boring 'tab A slot B' type lameness. In the same vein, remember that penis-in-vagina or one-two-three-fingers-prep-penis-in-butt templates are common, sure, but not mandatory. You don't have to do crazy kama sutra stuff, just be flexible about what developes, because automatically assuming/railroading just one sex act can make things bland.

Avoid ridiculous euphemisms, and consider asking your rp partner if there are any words that really break the mood for them. (I really hate 'to the root', for example, but lots of other people are fine with it.) Also, have your character DO THINGS in response, not JUSt feel things. Even if your character is mainly passive, they can give verbal feedback, touch their partner in small ways, caresses, connection, little teasing, whatever.

Remember that not everything has to be super perfect IC, real sex has funny or awkward moments too.

And, just like all threads, the basics: be open to communicating with your RP partner if you're having trouble or uncertain about something, don't take things TOO seriously, and remember to have fun!
