I've considered this idea a number of times over my years in DWRP but I've always shelved it because it didn't seem to fit with the community wants. I'm wondering if we've entered a stage where it might have a chance?

None of this is new, it is actually a very old idea from on-line gaming back in the 90s, (some other ancient dusty relics might recognize it) but would be configured to work in a free form journal type space.

Here are some bare bones basics.

1) The arena setting would be generic fantasy D&D style. No networks, no current/futuristic technology, ye ole pens and paper on corkboards. The setting for personal journals ... that could be another matter entirely.

2) No apps because all characters would be either original, or AU takes on canon characters. So multiple people could be playing the looks/mannerisms of Steve Rogers, but their AU backstories would have to be different. There will need to be an info sheet in the character's journal, for other players to have as a basic reference, but that's the extent of it. No app rounds, no reserves, maybe a TDM with the dueling mechanics so prospective players could get a feel for how the duels work, but basically you come, you give it a try, if you enjoy it jump on in.

3) The focus would be on 3 "rock/paper/scissors" style dueling matrix; Swords, Magic, Fists. Coordinating dueling days, compiling results, reporting results of these duels would be the primary mod contribution. There won't be mod run events like you have historically seen in DW games. The mods will be there to run duel days, report the formal results, maybe run a tournament event once in awhile, but that would be the extent of it.

The mods might host a formal meet and greet type activity every once in awhile, but for the most part "outside dueling hours" would be player managed, player run.

4) As a result of item 3, there will be no game logs comm. Players are welcome to run open logs in their journals, and basically are expected to be adults about it. You DNI with someone, you have the right to decline their participation on your personal journal. Someone DNI's you and doesn't allow you to participate on their personal journal, respect that and host an event on your own journals.

Mods will be responsible for posting up a monthly (or bi-monthly depending upon activity) "post your notes" board that will be open to all participants in the community, but the game will run on the rule "Be an Adult." Looking for dueling partners? Post a note. Want to brag about your new rank? Post a note. Want to post a complaint about a fellow character? Show evidence of OOC agreement for smack talk between both parties or it's getting taken down.

5) Item 4 leverages the fact that there will be no formal AC. Basically, players and characters who are active in the duels (NOT ON THE JOURNALS/FORUMS) have the opportunity to rise in the ranks faster than players/characters who want to take a more casual approach to the duels. This doesn't mean one way of approaching the game is better than the other!

There will be one rule to address squatting in the higher ranks (where there are less open rank slots), a player/character who is not active in a certain number of duels across a period of 60 days, will lose their rank and have to start all over again.

6) Rank gets you bragging rights and scoring advantages in the duels and that's it. No plot hints, no special items, etc.

7) There will be no perma death as a result of the mod run duels in the arena. You want to play that kind of drama, that's okay but it would be a journal run, outside the arena, type event.

Looking to shoot the shit and maybe play around with my Nomad netrunner/techie!V(alerie), and dipping my toes into the fandom. Planning to flesh out her story more on her info page, but I'm open to whatever.

Not looking to join any games at the moment, so I'm mostly just down to memes or PSLs. Ships (I prefer F/F and Judy is bae) or gen are welcome, as well as canonmates/other Vs. I also love the idea of Valerie and Vincent existing in the same universe as siblings.

In general just putting my feelers out for any potential interest. I'm pretty new to the game, though not to Cyberpunk. I actually had a 2020 campaign started back before the pandemic (you can probably hazard a guess as to how that went down), and I've seen Edgerunners quite some time ago. i was thinking the other day and i realized i haven't had one of those crazy ships that lives in my head rent-free, kicks out every other tenant and sends me into a spiral every day of my life in... a couple of literal years and that's just so tragic to me, i miss that feeling of honking my clown nose as i barely hold on to my sanity about two fictional characters.

Most of my characters right now have a lot of hangups both about always trying to Do Better and being reluctant to make new friends and connections.

Would love a character who's generally content with their life and who is pretty open and good at making new friends and being there for other people more than needing people to be there for them. Not someone super high energy because I don't think I can keep up that kind of energy for long, but someone calm-ish and content and good at being there for other people.

bringing this back from the last post because i think this anon has a good point that hits the nail on the head for a lot of the woes i see here -- and personally experience. i had to get over this idea of being the "favorite" of "my favorite" in order to continue having fun. i still struggle with this and it affects me on my lower days before i can reframe how i'm feeling and sit with the root of the feelings rather than let it affect the reason why i participate in this hobby. at the end of the day, i rp because i thrive off of the collaborative creative element. the ooc aspect is not relevant other than the degree to which it's necessary to plot and execute threads. the reasons that i'm tying my worth to being a "favorite" have nothing to do with rp and are more harmful to myself than a productive way to engage with this hobby.

Does anybody have any reliable non-DW ways of backing up LJ stuff? I tried all of the options that were listed in Denise's BlueSky thread, and none of them worked -- ljbook was a huge pain, ljarchive doesn't work anymore, etc. I know I can go through and save each post as an HTML page, but something like ljarchive that actually works would be enormously helpful, if it exists!

Obviously there's no magic formula to succeed but what have you noticed? Or what personally puts you off from apping to a new game you might otherwise like?

i notice two things most frequently. one: it's bad timing. say game a opens its tdm but game b and established big game c, along with game d have tdms at the same time. other three games have more players in the tdm, better word of mouth. game a fails to launch

two: it's too many red flags. rushed premise, bad formatting and coding, too many problem players or players with bad reps showing interest puts others off, then the rushed tdm happens and only those problem players show up. failure to launch

other factors are the genre, how the ratio skews as far as character age and medium, vibes, etc.

I miss the nexus rp so much. Sages of Chaos was my first journal rp and despite some of the absolute literal insanity of it, the freedom and community made it so much fun. I miss that. Never found it again in games or open rp.
