This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Also applies to the Ryslig mods and any other mod team that has proven shitty behavior. Mods don't deserve to be viciously maligned by their playerbases and aren't customer service agents, but you agree to the social contract of being at least fair, objective, and not a complete asshole when you offer yourself up to be a mod for something.

+0.5 because I understand what you're trying to say, but Ryslig was around for ten years and from what I understand rotated head mod hands several times, where some were shitty but others were not bad. so just saying “the Ryslig mods” is already unfairly generalizing a rotating roster of mods and once again proves the point of how judgmental y'all can get

anon it sounds like, especially from you saying 'from what i understand', you might be missing the context of the last modset really harming their relationship with their playerbase. most people are not thinking of the "rotating cast" you mentioned in relation to the comment that anon made and also there were a couple of mods who were there the whole time/almost the whole time, too

AYRT here, that's not really the point I was making though, so let's take Ryslig out and look at the broader picture

Mod teams will always have far more complicated dynamics than what's visible to the playerbase's eyes, especially in longrunning games where rotation happens. And mod teams will always be a mixed bag when it comes to their competence and social skills. More often than not, the competent members of a team are left doing damage control on something caused either by an incompetent co-mod, or by human error.

By all means, judge the incompetent mods, but to lump every mod who's ever touched a particular game together into one statement of “the [Whatever] mods” does an extreme disservice to the competent ones who were there purely by name association. I don't want to be a mod because of this prevalent absence of nuance which I see happening constantly on anon comms (and even outside them).

that's not what people were saying, and you can't take Ryslig out of the example to make what was being said make sense. The example was essentially "there is evidence that the last mod team of Ryslig objectively did things that hurt their players". what was being said was "sometimes moderators actually do shitty things, even though it is also true that modship is difficult"

I get what you are saying but you are trying to make it into a genralized statement when it was actually a very specific example

Who did the Ryslig mods supposedly hurt aside from Triska, Luc, and their buddies?

not responding to ryslig in particular bc i dont know it but "proven" and "shitty" are both words that are used in subjective and super butthurt ways all the time

I thought it was obvious, but I meant when there is clear evidence of wrongdoing and not just hearsay from loud, obnoxious players who didn't get their way.
