I'm here for canon characters. If I wanted OCs, I'd go on any other RP site or discord.

i understand that it's probably better to overtag for content/trigger warnings but at what point have we gone too far

depends on the oc

if the oc is from a tabletop system like dungeons and dragons you'll have it a tad easier than someone who makes up an oc wholesale

but it won't be as easy as rping a canon character

i was really excited for this weekend but i hardly ended up getting any tags

cw: seme/ukes mention, unhealthy relationships, anon boredom

i just had to scroll through what must've been 50+ cws for a log only to realize it was standard unhealthy seme/uke fare

ehhhh, imo there's a difference between an interpretation that doesn't match yours and being ooc. like, i've seen players that interpret a specific aspect of my character in a different way than i do, and while i don't personally agree with it, i also wouldn't call it wrong or ooc because it doesn't contradict anything about canon. but i've also seen people with interpretations that straight-up go against parts of canon, and THAT'S ooc. two different things entirely.

I meant not engaging with new media, not with unfamiliar canons. Even without tv you've got the great power of the internet. Every theater in my area posts their upcoming schedules. Many sites do reviews of upcoming stuff of all mediums. Libraries have more than books.

I remember back in the LJRP days what really drove home that no one had any idea what a trigger warning even was anymore is someone put "couches" on the list of things they were triggered by when the mods of a game asked for ones from their players. I believe there was also stuff on there like "paint swatches" and "climate change." People seem to have stopped understanding that cw and tw should be for stuff that legitimately might upset a person if it is sprung on them unaware in the thread and trigger something like an actual PTSD reaction. Now it's just "this makes me feel a wittle bit uncomfy and hurts my delicate feelings."

And it's only gotten worse ever since, especially with this culture of self-censorship that social media has encouraged lest stuff get deleted. I had someone recently censor the WORD incest in the cw as "inc*st" instead of just writing out the damn thing. And it wasn't like it was a pair of siblings boning in the thread, this was just backstory like writing out "The Targaryens were often known known for practicing incest by marying brothers and sisters."

Though the lack of awareness did provide me with the amusing image of the first player having a home filled with chairs only and having panic attacks where they were shaking, crying, screaming, and throwing up anytime they went to someone else's house and saw an innocuous little loveseat in the corner.

reminds me of when i saw a cw for "homophobia" when it was two dudes kissing.

i've seen other pretty ridiculous use of cw. some people are overly cautious with them ig.

media censorship has absolutely made it worse. i'm annoyed every time i see a video where even minor curse words get censored/bleeped out and people say "unalive" because they're not allowed to simply say words like "murder" or "suicide" anymore. it's given birth to a form of orwellian double-speak, so of course this is where society has taken us and i hate it.

it annoys me because if you’re trying to filter a word like rape people using euphemisms or censoring causes the filter not to pick it up

it sometimes gives me the vibe of people trying to come across as ... very mature or edgy in their writing? the excessive warnings in toplevels or subject lines, that is.

this could be entirely the wrong takeaway, honestly, and not very generous of me. it really could just be people earnestly trying not trigger people with stuff like, "cw: past trauma about a character killing a monster" in an event that is all about fighting monsters.

da but i do find it very disingenuous, ia. i was briefly in a game where it felt like every other subject line had a cw of some description, and i get that things come up unexpectedly, but it does come across more like telegraphing content - even when it's loosely or vaguely alluded to, rather than elaborated on in any way - instead of warning.

(this was in a horror/monster transformation game too, which somehow made it weirder to me)

but i've also seen people warn for sex in sex games, which never ceases to be funny to me.

dda, but i think this sort of thing generally depends on what sort of content it is & how reasonably (general) you can expect the average dwrper to have experienced it in real life. for example one of my main characters has a history with parental abuse & csa and i warn for those quite liberally because there is a good chance of someone with that sort of lived experience stumbling across it.

by contrast, stuff that is more fantastical or is very unlikely to have occurred in your average dwrper's life i am a bit more laissez faire about it. i don't expect anyone in even the biggest games on dw right now to have experienced getting (as a random example) eaten by a dragon or something

that said sometimes these things do get a bit silly even if i think most people's hearts are in the right place with it. i play in a lot of murdergames and sometimes see people cw-ing for stuff like blood and murder in comment headers and. (that one vine voice) yeah. i sure hope there is.

You know what, I had no idea I needed this exact rp scenario until right now.

Perhaps this guy (pre or post Grogu, dealer's choice, we can handwave some of the exact timing) could be involved in a prison break and lets her out? I think they could be really fun to bounce off each other, since Mando is very anti-Empire and would not be sympathetic to her reasons for doing what she did, but would be sympathetic to her getting screwed over by the very beast she fed. Something something Mandalorian honour code.

that was in deerington where players were required to warn for almost everything and it was that doctor aka blue who is barely literate at the best of times. she probably thought she had to warn for gay kissing and forgot the word "homosexuality".

don't get me wrong, i'd never consider warning for anything along the lines of abuse to be egregious or unwarranted! even in a horror or darker-toned game.

I LOATHE the self censoring crap and refuse to use it. If you can't even SAY the word, you don't get to talk about it, I think. Also 'unalive' sounds dumb.

i see people doing "cw: emetophobia" if their tag involves vomit, so perhaps she thought she was warning people with a pathological fear of gay kissing
