This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

i've switched to using containers on firefox since lj juggler started getting annoying and buggy, in case that helps anyone

look at the taken list and comb through everyone's permissions and kink lists. you do not want to learn the hard way that you will not be smut-compatible with most of the game. some examples of what i mean:

1. the character you want to app is barely 18 years old, but more than half of characters will only thread smut with partners who are 20+.

2. you want to thread smut with female characters, but you don't want to thread with teens, and the majority of female characters in the game are under 20.

3. you play a violent character who can regenerate and getting to play hard kink is important to you, but only 5 people in the game have gore in their "yes" column and only 3 of them have compatible preferences. (keep in mind that all three of these characters may drop within months of you joining.)

do not join a sex game if you're not comfortable playing in an environment where dubcon/noncon happens. even if you play a sex-positive character who will gladly fuck without the jamjar gods telling them to, they will still be surrounded by dubcon in the form of characters ingesting aphro and being put in uncomfortable situations.

the dubcon/noncon thing is a big point. my worst sex game experience was a consensual thread that the character later said was nonconsensual because they had an event effect going on. be very very very clear with people that you aren't ok with that sort of thing if you're not.

i play shit as popular as flavor of the week hoyos and obscure characters where i am the literal only one, and it's so much easier to get traction with the lcws in a game. if i had to guess why it's because the entire 'tired adult' thing makes people less willing to take a chance on something they don't know?

ayrt - yes! that's what i've observed. dreamwidth has always been more of a last resort roleplay spot for me so i've been off/on for years, and i feel like i remember seeing more cross-canon activity over yonder than i do now. but maybe a lot of that was from folks in games who had prior cr? idk tbh

either way, it's def looking like i should just join a game and treat bakerstreet as just a place for one-off, once-in-a-blue-moon roleplay to be taken less seriously. the way god intended it to be. LOL

seconding seeing the permissions for people because if you have an under 18 there will be people who refuse to smut with them. i would just look around people's smut lists to see if you vibe with what appears to be popular.

and DO NOT under any circumstances go into a smut game with the intention of a monogamous ship. emotionally is fine, but the point of the game is to be down to clown and it almost always ends in disaster.

i'm in games so i can get all the crosscanon i want, when it comes to memes i usually only want specific canon ships i intentionally go looking for. bakerstreet really is a hit or miss even if you do find the things you want, the best way to get consistent play is in a game.

this is defo one of those 'your experiences are not universal' things because i only play cross canon and am drowning in threads on bakerstreet

there are definitely demographics that are less interested in cross canon, though, but again, this is personal experience

in my experience comics, animation and videogame players are much more cross-canon friendly (barring new, big shinies), while live action and animanga is 50/50

for a second i thought you were saying there was an event later that made the other character start remembering consensual sex as nonconsensual

the live actions i have the most success with are the star treks. but i play from a sci-fi video game so ymmv

it helps to put what canons you are familiar with in your permissions

i noticed a significant uptick in interests/tags when i specified what genres/canons i'm familiar with, as well as writing up aus (how my character would fit in a specific universe)

this might be too much for some people though. not for me because i enjoy that sort of thing (tabletop rper)

I have to wonder if dw being your option of last resort if it's possible there's a culture clash issue too.
