like i get the spirit ig but also it's always so strange to me when people try to guilt about using stuff without creator permission on the site where, overwhelmingly, people are using stuff without creator permission and straight up calling it a hobby

on the comm for that hobby specifically, no less

we're already the weird unoriginal fucks that can't just settle for fanfic in the eyes of the rest of the writing scene lol, none of us have much of a moral pedestal to hop onto here

yeah i'm a big advocate for crediting artists and i hate repost clout accounts as much as the next guy, but i lose 0 sleep over using fanart for this hobby (especially when i credit all the art i use and make sure the links are visible anyway).

if the artist somehow discovers my embarrassing flowery rp journal profile and asks me to take their art down then i'll obviously comply but has that ever happened to anyone here?

da and also when all of the artists i know say "don't repost without permission," what they mean is "don't post it without any links or credit to me." what they don't want is people spreading their art around without attributing it to them. if someone is crediting it and linking back to their account then they honestly don't care.

anon i agree with your sentiment but the idea of directly messaging an artist every time you want to use a profile fanart and stating that you did this on your journal for everyone's approval is just never going to be the norm in this community

it's too full of an even split of lazy fucks who won't take the time, and socially inept nerds who'd rather die than tell an artist they want to use their art for a pretendy roleplaying journal on a site they've never heard of

honestly the fact that it's now more common to credit and link the artist source nowadays here is already leagues ahead of the overall internet game, and unfortunately probably as good as it's going to get in this hobby
