when you say you're 'backtag-friendly,' concretely, how long are you willing to hit back the same thread? a week? a month? two months? six? does this change in a game or meme setting?

for the sake of simplicity, assume you're talking about threads done leisurely, not with any kind of plot commitment to engage over a specific period of time.

for me, backtagging usually means i'll tag the same thread back for about one month in a game and two months in a meme, fwiw.

game tag, plot related: i'll tag back until the game plot moves past this point, then i'll ask to handwave any needed conclusions

game tag, not plot related: i'll tag back for a month or so

meme tag: i'll tag back forever. i'm in a psl right now that's 18 months old

I’ll backtag forever as long as I’m still enjoying the thread. The life on those perpetual backtags tend to go back around 4-6 months as my average with fellow backtaggers.

Back tagging for me depends - is it one tag every six months? Probably not, it's hard for me to keep the details of what was going on with the thread in mind. But if someone reappeared after six months and wanted to get back to the thread, and we were going to keep up a somewhat quicker pace, I would definitely pick it back up.

But I will backtag good, meaty threads for years, even if the tags are at a 1-2 weeks pace (so we are each getting back to the thread within a week or two). Texting or really casual bskt threads I'll probably drop after 2-3 months. For game threads, a month at maximum.

Until the thread is done especially if it’s something I’m really invested in. I was pretty flaky back in the LJ days so I’ve really worked on correcting that

in memes, forever unless i've lost the character voice. please tag me back.

in games, if the tagging is slow but consistent, I will probably keep at it until we reach a reasonable conclusion or the thread tapers off on it's own or it gets dropped.

Not in games, but I'll backtag for as long as we're both interested in the thread, though if there's a sudden gap of going from 1-2 days or a week to nothing for an entire month I usually have lost interest by then and won't want to restart. Exceptions being if the thread is REALLY interesting.

not in a game currently, so basically forever with memes and psls

in a game: back to about a month, mostly bc games will generally have scheduled incoming events, a concrete shared timeline that needs navigating, and ac to make. if the thread would add something to our cr that i'd need to account for in more current things but hasn't reached that point in a month, i'd want to hash out the main strokes and move on to the newer stuff

in a meme: if i'm still feeling it and my rp partner is too, p much forever. though ime texting threads tend to run out of conversation after a couple weeks if it's not terribly meaty and not transitioning to action

meme/psl: I’ll give it up to six months depending on how good it is.
texting memes: unless it went to action, dropping the very same day.
game: maybe two months at most but a lot of times I’ve already done other things with the character. that affect my older threads.

overall if you communicate your pace/speed before starting something with me, I’ll be more lenient. if you go from boomerang tagging me in a day to one tag a month, I may become bored/forget details.

game: 2-3 months if tags are somewhat consistent during that time and it's still moving towards a goal. If the thread's not working towards something in particular I'm likely to wrap it up rather than backtag that long. If it's more than like. 8 days on average between tags? I may tag back but I've mentally given up on it.

psl: months unending as long as things are still moving

meme: I don't actually do too many memes but probably shorter than all the others, maybe a couple weeks at most

game tags: two weeks unless it's plot- or cr-important
meme or psl tags: i'll tag back forever as long as the other person is still tagging

I'll always be willing to tag a thread no matter how old if I'm still in the game or if I still play the character if psls.

What I won't do though is ask for new threads if the pace is too sporadic (like i could expect a tag from you tomorrow or next week or six months later you boomerang) or if I get thread-dropped too often.

Generally, until the thread reaches a satisfying conclusion. As in, if either your or my comment puts a nice neat scene-ending shine on it, where a tv show would cut to the next scene or a manga would end page. I have to cut off backtags if someone just keeps fucking going with small talk that adds nothing to our CR or the scene. Doubly so if we're not moving on to the next chapter because this one just won't stop, though that's more of a concern in a game.

So, as long as the thread still has content and the pace is enough to maintain interest and character voice, it could theoretically be months. A year. Who knows.

i'm going to pretend everyone in this thread who's saying that they're open to being backtagged forever on memes is the person i owe a tag to, because it's been a few days and i had a dumb worry that "ooo it's been too long ooo they won't care now", but now i'm gonna go tag them back instead of worrying

that you say 'a few days' means it's definitely not me you're tagging but i hope your partners appreciate the tag back as much as i would.

a few days, it COULD be me you're replying to, there's a few threads that haven't been tagged back in a few days and I would be so excited to get the reply in my inbox
