A fighting game!

Eternal "tournament" where characters fight in order to gain or lose the recognition of the capricious "best fighter in the universe!" who called them there. Characters are brought in not only if they want to be the very best, but because they've shown some spark of determination to fight.

When it comes to the divisions, I'm not sure whether it would be more fun for those to be static - basically a light, light-heavyweight, heavyweight kind of thing, with categories like normal human, enhanced, powers/magic user, etc., or whether each round/event is a certain kind of fight, and all characters are powered up or down appropriately to participate.

For regulating fights, I think ICly and OOCly the best system would be to award recognition based on moments of daring in a fight, rather than conclusive victory. The point wouldn't just be winning but having a really good fight, allowing players to engage collaboratively on an ooc level and removing some of the pressure to finish a fight if someone drops or is slow. Maybe players would have to submit a plotting conversation or dice rolls alongside their fight as well.

I just think combat and rivalries are fun to rp!

Points for a unique idea, but I would worry about getting burnt out on this really quickly. How many times can you write different fight threads before it gets tiring?

fight threads are the number one most common handwaved type of thread in my experience. i've never really found many people who actually enjoy writing them because they require so much coordination and so many of the tags will be just "he tries to punch, she dodges" and there's only so many ways you can write that over and over.

a gladiator or tournament style setting would be dope though. i'm imagining like a sci fi "battle world" or something like that. but i imagine that the actual fight threads would be better of turned into an rng or dice roll between players and then the actual rp is focused on everything outside of that.

i really like writing out fight threads and i honestly agree

fight threads are only good when they're part of the arc for your characters and lead to something more meaningful than a tournament bracket
