i honestly don't know what any of that has to do with what i said

op wants to know the appeal. unless they only play from drama, horror, and/or rom coms, superheroes are really not that different from any other adventure canons. specific tropes are different, yes, but the rest is the same. big personalities, fighting to save the world, crazy powers, characters dealing with themes like what is right and wrong or if killing is right. d&d canons are just medieval fantasy superheroes to name a random example. the appeal is the same, people are going to choose one over the other depending if they like swords and dragons or cities and guns

I think you're getting to the heart of OP's question with this point. That is, OP may wonder why the specific tropes are big with people who love capeshit and why that doesn't seem to work for them.

I've rped against some awesome comics characters and watched a handful of Marvel things, but the tropes don't appeal to me - the concept of a world where grown men dress up in silly costumes in order to be vigilantes. OTOH I'm totally down with sendups of that concept like Tiger & Bunny, where the underlying trope has a reason (TV ratings and mascot culture). Some people can suspend their disbelief for capes and cowls and some can't, and that's probably why OP is wondering.

Yeah, I personally don't think OP finding the appeal of superheroes confusing despite what people say because they still do have a different appeal. Like I personally cannot get into MCU because I sometimes find the amount of suspension of disbelief I have for some plotlines just doesn't work for me, even if I play from a lot of modern day settings with powers.

I think there's a big difference between the appeal of MCU specifically and of superheroes altogether. conflating them as being the same thing makes the conversation more confusing, because what draws people to superheroes sometimes makes them critical of the MCU and not all MCU fans really like other super heroes at all. the concept of superheroes isn't owned by MCU but i can't tell if OP meant "why are people into the concept of superheroes at all" or if they meant "why are specifically live action cinematic superheroes so appealing in dwrp"

because, for instance, My Hero Academia is also about superheroes, but I get the feeling they weren't asking why people are into that

Yeah it would also depend on their definition of a superhero. Like I imagine they mean DC/Marvel in its entirety and anything with similiar themes like Invincible or Shazam, but does it cover things like BNHA and T&B which are offshoots of that concept? Things like TMNT or Sailormoon which are less traditionally considered superheroes but can be argued as such? Canons like Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint where they gain superpowers and try to battle the forces doing things to them?

I agree it muddies the water depending on how broad superheroes are meant to be here. If it's just DCU/MCU I would say yeah, I agree it doesn't appeal to me. Comics depends on which characters since I'm not into the popular ones but like a few like Red Hood who is under the superhero bracket but not technically a super, etc. You get the point.
