Rundown: rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. i'm a bit of an outlier because MCU/DCU are my least favorite iterations of superheroes, but basically if not to be super strong for yourself, to be super strong for others. There's empowering fantasy in getting to do something for someone else that you couldn't do IRL. There's also empowering fantasy in getting to be the one who saves the Hero, whether that's through romance or friendship or anything else you can get out of rp.

And sometimes it's not even just about the heroes. The villains and anti-heros can be fulfilling to play when you have that drive. when you're angry or when you get why so and so became 'the bad guy'. But you can be the bad guy with a whip or the bad guy with laser eyes.

I mean, the origin of marvel specifically was grown men writing ways to feel safe/stronger than nazis and being able to step out of their life to be 'fantastical', (ergo, Stan Lee's first publication was fantastic 4).

i also get a lot out of villain redemption/fix-it, but I know others get a lot out of other expressions of villainry and 'make them worse' stuff. There's a lot of 'the evil i get to control' in that fantasy-- and yeah, feeling bigger than nazis was a big part of it. I miss that era of superheroes, but i won't pretend there's not a lot of appeal for others in newer stuff too.

there is an element of propaganda involved in modern MCU stuff especially, but for the most part folks get attached to these characters bc it makes them feel like they can stand up to scary things in their real lives, or if they can't, then it fulfills the fantasy of someone else doing so.
