m/m, research lab setting, consensual sacrifice for science™, ???, wish i knew what this is
anyway, i've got this plot skeleton i'd love to play out that basically starts from the scenario of some kind of very important research being conducted. think along the lines of a huge breakthrough that could tip the world back from the brink of literal apocalypse, stop humanity from going extinct, save a whole country etc. at any rate, a noble cause both of our characters, i'm thinking the head researcher and his dedicated assistant but also childhood best friend / insert some other very important personal relation who's been supporting him all along (but open to other possible matchups), truly believe in and want completed. however, they hit a massive roadblock and the research is stagnating due to the lack of (ethical) means to conduct any testing, since it would require live humans.
cue the assistant/friend character offering himself up willingly as a lab rat / experiment material, because he believes in the genius of his much smarter scientist friend just that much and/or is just that dedicated to the cause. what this entails exactly will depend on what we decide is causing our Situation™ and the problem they're trying to solve, but i imagine some getting injected or implanted with weird and risky shit will occur, to all sorts of possibly unfortunate and torturous results. basically the slowburn from hell to one party's possible loss of sanity/self and eventual death, all at the hands of the person they love the most. that sort of vibe.
no sex here, sorry, only human experimentation and savior/martyr complexes.
(i'm joking, there can be sex too, we can add fun stuff like side effects of the treatment / research / experiments no one anticipated, "i never got to do this thing i really dreamed of so i'd like to do it now before i die", unspoken feelings one or both always harbored now coming out, etc. it just probably won't be the focus and this'll be like 90% plot and emotion salad and only like 10% smut.)
slight preference for playing the scientist and he'll probably be an anime or anime-adjacent man, but i'm cross-medium friendly if you are. if you have someone in mind for that yourself though, tell me about them and i might still switch.
